Numerosos trabajos han descrito el proceso de reestructuración sufrido por la banca española en los últimos años, aportando enfoques desde áreas diversas. En ellos se revisan las sucesivas inyecciones de capital realizadas con el objetivo de subsanar los problemas de liquidez de las entidades; sin embargo, a día de hoy, aún es imposible tener la certeza de cuánto ha costado el rescate bancario y qué parte del dinero se reingresará en las arcas públicas. Las causas son diversas, aunque destaca el hecho de que aún es imposible hablar de la crisis en pasado, pues las entidades se encuentran en un cierto equilibrio condicionado. En este contexto, este trabajo pretende analizar el papel de los principales agentes que participan, directa o indirectamente, en la regulación bancaria y que, por tanto, pueden vincularse con la crisis financiera. Además, se identificarán las carencias del sistema financiero y los fallos que han impedido un adecuado y eficaz funcionamiento de los mecanismos de regulación.
