Reading, Writing, and Digitizing offers a new theoretical proposal concerning expert and novice readers and writers based on the psycholinguistics of literacy. This book has five specific goals. First, it presents a theory of meta-reading and writing that describes what literacy experts are able to do with written text. They do what the word “meta” describes: go before and after, into and around, beyond and beside written text to understand and create meaning. Second, the case studies presented reveal differences between literacy novices and experts in terms of their awarenesses about texts and their skills; these are clarified as the discussion unfolds. Third, the book provides an analysis of the processing mechanisms people use and the features that texts contain that make literacy possible. A fourth goal is to examine how experts understand and produce texts in both traditional and digital venues. Medieval books that survive today have been through a lot: singed by fire, mottled by mold, eaten by insects, annotated by readers, cut into fragments, or damaged through well-intentioned preservation efforts. In this book, Michelle Warren tells the story of one such manuscript—an Arthurian romance with textual origins in twelfth-century England now diffused across the twenty-first century internet. This trajectory has been propelled by a succession of technologies—from paper manufacture to printing to computers. Together, they have made literary history itself a cultural technology indebted to colonial capitalism. Bringing to bear media theory, medieval literary studies, and book history, Warren shows how digital infrastructures change texts and books, even very old ones. In the process, she uncovers a practice of "tech medievalism" that weaves through the history of computing since the mid-twentieth century; metaphors indebted to King Arthur and the Holy Grail are integral to some of the technologies that now sustain medieval books on the internet. The goal of ICOLLEC 2021 is to provide an academic forum for disseminating diverse scholarly, analytical, and practical perspectives on the tenets and nexuses through interdisciplinary dialog in the realms of humanities, education, and the arts. The topic for this year is "The Dynamics of Language, Literature, Education, Art, and Culture of a Changing Society in the Age of Disruption." We pledge to capture a vivid portrayal and a picturesque sphere for the various cutting-edge phenomena in language, literature, education, art, and culture. While the contributions and passion shown throughout the conference have far surpassed our expectations. As a result, we are overwhelmed with a sense of triumph and enlightenment. It is a great accomplishment for us to present the conference proceedings as the remembrance of the authors and delegates of ICOLLEC 2021 in a permanent record of what was presented. The proceedings are organized into three sections: language, literature, and culture. We collected 35 remarkable manuscripts in the discussion from around 60 papers presented. Hopefully, you will find it insightful, fascinating, and inspirational. This proceeding also includes two submissions from representatives of notable keynote speakers. For the subtheme in Representation of the Disruption Era in Literature, Prof. Dr. Sharmani Patricia Gabriel has written a piece titled: The Humanities in an Age of Neoliberal Disruption. For the sub-theme of Local Culture in Global Society, Dr. Hippolytus Kewwel, M. Hum., wrote an article entitled: Hermeneutic Dilemma in the Indonesian Interfaith Dialogue Program. Unfortunately, several manuscripts were not accepted due to reviewing results and capacity limits.
