ABOUT THE BOOK Hilarity Ensues is Tucker Maxs third book in a series that has created a new literary genre called fratire. Fratire doesnt necessarily have to involve guys in fraternities (even though it is derived from the word), but it is about the drunken debauchery of young adult males who only focus on alcohol and sex. Defining this genre and revelling in it has made Tucker Max a rich, famous man. This is his last book in this genre, because he claims the book does not represent who he is anymore. All three of his books are really just a collection of short stories that are claimed to be autobiographical (some people dont believe that for a second) and have no real link except for the characters and general themes of demeaning women and sleeping with anyone. MEET THE AUTHOR Nolan Collins grew up in South Carolina and attended the great University of South Carolina in Columbia. There, he learned that his love for writing and story telling was something that he needed to pursue as a career. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK There are countless other entertaining anecdotes in the pages of Hilarity Ensues, but a lot of them, while funny, are also very sad. It seems like Tucker is having a great time, but his life is so empty and that he is borderline sociopathic due to his seeming lack of conscience. More importantly, the book makes me feel bad for the all of Tuckers victims. The women he constantly berates, belittles, abuses (emotionally), and demeans dont always deserve it. Sometimes they do, but very few. Im sure there is more to Tucker emotionally than what he writes about and he even says that he leaves those things out because he doesnt want to ruin the funny parts. But it would be much more interesting to see how this lifestyle has affected Tucker on an emotional level. Unfortunately, he stays away from that like the plague.
