Over the last three years a significant program of detector technology research and development for high luminosity, high energy hadron-hadron colliders has been underway in the United States, Japan and Europe. In as much as the first formal steps have been undertaken to initiate the experimental program at the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC), it is appropriate to assess in detail the status of this R&D effort.Results and Plans for Advanced Technology R&D for Particle Physics Detectors Appropriate for SSC Experiments are Presented. Specific Topics include: Calorimetry; Particle Tracking and Identification Techniques; Vertex-Detection; Magnets; Front-End Electronics; Data Acquisition Electronics; Techniques in Triggering; Data Transmission; Data Analysis and Simulation Software; Studies on Radiation Damage to Materials and Electronics.
IISSC '89 was a tremendous success. A total of 635 people attended this educational forum which was dedicated to further the understanding of the design, construction and operation of the Superconducting Supercollider (SSC). A total of 110 presentations and addresses were given. The topics discussed covered .all aspects of the SSC including: Magnet Technology Cryogenics Conventional Facilities Technical Systems Detectors Related Accelerator Technology Superconducting Wire/Cable ApproXimately 38% of the presentations addressed superconducting magnet technology, 16% were devoted to detector technology, 10% addressed superconducting wire/ cable, and the balance was equally split between the remaining topics. A special award was presented to Professor M. Tigner for his meritorious contribution to the Superconducting Supercollider (SSC). The award was presented on behalf of the IISSC Board of Directors. DPF 90 at Rice University was planned as a major conference of truly international character which reviews recent developments in all areas of particle physics. Plenary session topics include new results from SLC, LEP, pp colliders, Heavy Quark Physics, High Energy Astrophysics. Two-day mini-conferences were held on the following subjects: Electroweak Physics, QCD and Hadron Physics, Theory Beyond the Standard Model, Non-accelerator Physics.
This international meeting on ultrahigh energy multiparticle phenomena started with a summary of neutrino physics, followed by a detailed review of LEP results. It moved on to the fast-breaking field of rapidity gaps, hard pomeron and small-x structure functions at both Hera and the FermiLab Tevatron. The major collider experiments at FermiLab, and in particular, the results of the top quark search were presented in complete detail. The fields of intermittency, multiplicities, correlation functions, heavy quarks, soft and semihard hadronic physics, and the particle physics aspects of cosmic rays were subjects of spirited debate.

Second in a series of international workshops in high energy physics, WHEPP II dealt with front- line areas of particle phenomenology with an eye to new physics with planned accelerators. Among the topics discussed were: (a) collider physics and structure functions, (b) B physics, hadronic matrix elements and lattice results, (c) new particle search and model building, (d) LEP results and radiative corrections to electro-weak processes and (e) baryon number violation in electroweak processes.
The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 12th Workshop of the INFN ELOISATRON Project, held at the "Ettore Majorana" Centre for Scientific Culture (EMCSC), Erice (frapani), Sicily, Italy, in the period September 15-20, 1990. The proceedings deal with the presentation of "New Technologies for Supercolliders". Three new energy frontiers (16,40 and 200 TeV) are now opened up for the future of Subnuclear Physics. Basic problems above the Fermi-energy are crowding up: but no one knows the energy levels needed for their solution. This is why the technology for experiments with the new generation of Supercolliders needs to be pursued having in mind the problems which are of common interest in the three energy frontiers. The primary purpose of the Workshop was to contribute towards the highest energy limit in the search for new instruments and new technologies. Furthermore, the present status and performances of various detector technologies were reviewed. The possible options for a powerful apparatus whose goal would be the discovery of the top, Higgs and SUSY particles in a very high energy, high rate environment, were finally analysed. The Workshop was sponsored by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), the Italian Ministry of Education, the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technological Research and the Sicilian Regional Government.
