The possible upgrade of LHC or a future generation of colliders at the extreme limits of energy and luminosity will require detectors based on very advanced technological solutions to fully exploit the physics opportunities offered. Major steps must be taken to design and realize devices that are able not only to handle very high rates but also to cope with the very harsh radiation environment without suffering any performance degradation.This book reviews the present status, current limits and recent developments in detection techniques and related aspects (simulation, signal acquisition, tracking, particle identification, etc.). The book ?Channeling 2008?, Charged and Neutral Particles Channeling Phenomena, is formed by the same title conference contributions. This volume includes papers by leading researchers from different world centers. Their recent results on the coherent phenomena of charged and neutral particles propagating through the structures of various sizes and periodicities are included here, along with historical reviews by pioneers of coherent bremsstrahlung and channeling radiation as well as crystal channeling collimation.
This volume describes the critical issues involved in scaling the technology of proton synchrotrons to operate at energies much larger than those of existing accelerators. Luminosity limitions and interdependence of machine characteristics are analyzed. The second section presents analyses of the detector technologies needed to utilize a hadron super collider at the highest energies and luminosities.
These proceedings comprise cutting-edge contributions by researchers at the frontiers of beam physics, free-electron-based light sources, and advanced accelerators. It represents a snap-shot of activity in these fields at a critical historical juncture, where rapid experimental progress is being reported, and new facilities such as X-ray free-electron lasers are under construction. The volume features invited contributions from leading researchers from the international beam physics community that summarize the state-of-the-art research in individual topics, as well as timely contributions from participants that arose during the workshop itself.
This book is the result of a broad-based and in-depth study of high energy physics commissioned by the Executive Committee of the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. This year-long study was initiated in the early 1994, in the wake of the cancellation of the SSC, and is meant to complement the report of the Drell HEPAP subpanel, charged with providing a vision for the future of the field. The DPF study of high energy physics was organized on the basis of the working groups, each led by a number of co-conveners chosen among established leaders in the various subspecialties in the field. These conveners, in turn, organized their working groups by inviting other active workers in the discipline to participate and gathered further input from the community by holding a variety of specialized meetings and workshops. This book contains the final reports of the 11 working groups assembled for the study, along with an extended overview and executive summary by the editors.

The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 6th and 7th INFN ELOISATRON project workshops, held at the Centro di Cultura Scientifica "Et tore Majorana" CCSEM, Erice-Trapani, Sicily, Italy, in the period June 10-27, 1988. The topics of the two workshops were, respectively: - Heavy Flavours: Status and Perspectives, and - Novel Features of High Energy Collisions in 1-100 TeV Region. They were attended by sixty-three physicists. The two workshops were followed by a meeting of the INFN ELOISATRON working group, also held at the CCSEM in the period October 7-15, 1988 in which twenty-five physicists participated. Since there was quite a bit of overlap among speakers, participants and the topics covered at the three meetings, we have decided to issue ajoint proceeding, with the first part entitled: Heavy Flavour Physics, and the second: High Energy Physics with 1-100 Te V Proton Beams. Some of the reports included in this volume have been contributed by the INFN ELOISATRON working group members. The first. part of these proceedings deals mostly with the presentation and inter pretation of results in t.he so-called fiavour physics sector. New results, which have become available in the last three years from experiments involving kaons, charmed and beauty hadrons, and searches for the still missing top quark at the present and fothcoming colliders are topics of major interest. here. The contributions in this part are organized in three categories: Experimental Results, Theoretical Interpretation, and Future Directions.
The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 12th Workshop of the INFN ELOISATRON Project, held at the "Ettore Majorana" Centre for Scientific Culture (EMCSC), Erice (frapani), Sicily, Italy, in the period September 15-20, 1990. The proceedings deal with the presentation of "New Technologies for Supercolliders". Three new energy frontiers (16,40 and 200 TeV) are now opened up for the future of Subnuclear Physics. Basic problems above the Fermi-energy are crowding up: but no one knows the energy levels needed for their solution. This is why the technology for experiments with the new generation of Supercolliders needs to be pursued having in mind the problems which are of common interest in the three energy frontiers. The primary purpose of the Workshop was to contribute towards the highest energy limit in the search for new instruments and new technologies. Furthermore, the present status and performances of various detector technologies were reviewed. The possible options for a powerful apparatus whose goal would be the discovery of the top, Higgs and SUSY particles in a very high energy, high rate environment, were finally analysed. The Workshop was sponsored by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), the Italian Ministry of Education, the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technological Research and the Sicilian Regional Government. HEP data structure systems, such as ADAMO, BOS, CHEETAH, JAZELLE, ZEBRA, etc., are not static but continue to evolve, some slowly, others more quickly. Large systems have been built on them, and by a careful comparison of their usage in experiments, one should be able to better understand which way to go. It is crucial to preserve the current investment while exploiting new computing technology.Experiments at large colliders are taking data and doing physics (or about to do so), so one can now compare practical experiences with different data management solutions in the area of: Simulation of Interactions and their Detection, Data Acquisition, On Line Management, Description of Detector and other Equipment, Experiment and Data Processing Bookkeeping, Reconstruction Algorithms, Event Display and Statistical Data Analysis.The articles in these proceedings are by contributors who are active in developing computer systems for Experimental Particle Physics where the organisation of the data plays an important role, as well as those who are building systems and packages to make this work easier.
