With the rapid expansion of the Asia-Pacific economy in the last decade and the recovery after the recent crisis, severe demands will be placed on energy services and the environment. Coping with the volatile oil prices that persist in the market introduces an additional factor into the energy supply and demand equation, not just for countries in this region but also worldwide. Inevitably there will be implications for environmental issues too. The future will see a continuing challenge to balance growth with sustainability in the economic, social and environmental sectors. This conference, a sequel to the immensely successful APCSEET conferences held in Singapore and Australia, is aimed at meeting that challenge by addressing the pertinent issues related to sustainable energy and environmental protection. It provides a forum for participants from academia, industry and government agencies to interact, report on research in progress, and identify opportunities in the fields of sustainable energy and environmental technologies. The presentations include not only technical issues such as air pollution control, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, renewable energy and cleaner production, but also education and policy issues.

In Advanced Physiochemical Treatment Technologies, leading pollution control educators and practicing professionals describe how various combinations of different cutting-edge process systems can be arranged to solve air, noise, and thermal pollution problems. Each chapter discusses in detail the three basic forms in which pollutants and waste are manifested: gas, solid, and liquid. There is an extensive collection of design examples and case histories.
This book includes extended and revised selected papers from the 8th International Conference on Smart Cities and Green ICT Systems, SMARTGREENS 2019, and the 5th International Conference on Vehicle Technology and Intelligent Transport Systems, VEHITS 2019, held in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, in May 2019. The 17 full papers presented during SMARTGREENS and VEHITS 2019 were carefully reviewed and selected from the 134 submissions. The papers present research on advances and applications in the fiels of smart cities, green information and communication technologies, sustainability, energy aware systems and technologies, vehicle technology and intelligent transport systems.
This Special Issue is aimed at highlighting the potentialities of membrane and membrane reactor operations in various sectors of chemical engineering, based on application of the process intensification strategy. In all of the contributions, the principles of process intensification were pursued during the adoption of membrane technology, demonstrating how it may lead to the development of redesigned processes that are more compact and efficient while also being more environmental friendly, energy saving, and amenable to integration with other green processes. This Special Issue comprises a number of experimental and theoretical studies dealing with the application of membrane and membrane reactor technology in various scientific fields of chemical engineering, such as membrane distillation for wastewater treatment, hydrogen production from reforming reactions via inorganic membrane and membrane photoassisted reactors, membrane desalination, gas/liquid phase membrane separation of CO2, and membrane filtration for the recovery of antioxidants from agricultural byproducts, contributing to valorization of the potentialities of membrane operations.
