The social and community driven aspects of our digital lives continue to rapidly increase, resulting in transformative behaviors and, significantly, publishing and distributing huge amounts of fascinating data. The eighth meeting of the International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media (ICWSM-14) was held in Ann Arbor, Michigan USA. There were 279 full paper submissions. Of these, 64 were accepted, an acceptance rate of 23 percent. With the help of the whole community - authors, reviewers, sponsors, steering committee and conference organizers - we have seen ICWSM evolve into the premier venue for social media research.
The Workshop Program of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's International Conference on Web and Social Media (AAAI-16) was held in Cologne, Germany. Workshops were held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Of the 8 workshops held, organizers from 5 chose to include papers in the AAAI Technical Reports series.
The social and community driven aspects of our digital lives continue to rapidly increase, resulting in transformative behaviors and, significantly, publishing and distributing huge amounts of fascinating data. The ninth meeting of the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media (ICWSM-14) was held at Oxford University in Oxford, UK. There were 64 full papers accepted (the acceptance rate was 19 percent). There are also 37 poster submissions appearing in the proceedings as four-page papers, and 3 demonstration papers appearing in the proceedings as two-page summaries. This conference continues to provide evidence that ICWSM is maturing in its role as a premier venue for social media research.
The technical papers presented at this conference feature substantial, original research and practices, with special emphasis on constraints, satisfiability, and search, knowledge-based information systems, knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, multiagent systems, multidisciplinary topics, natural-language processing, reasoning about plans, processes, and actions, reasoning under uncertainty, robotics, and short papers. The proceedings also includes special track papers on bioinformations, AI and the web, challenges in AI, integrated intelligence, and physically grounded AI.--From publisher description.
Increasingly, human beings are sensors engaging directly with the mobile Internet. Individuals can now share real-time experiences at an unprecedented scale. Social Sensing: Building Reliable Systems on Unreliable Data looks at recent advances in the emerging field of social sensing, emphasizing the key problem faced by application designers: how to extract reliable information from data collected from largely unknown and possibly unreliable sources. The book explains how a myriad of societal applications can be derived from this massive amount of data collected and shared by average individuals. The title offers theoretical foundations to support emerging data-driven cyber-physical applications and touches on key issues such as privacy. The authors present solutions based on recent research and novel ideas that leverage techniques from cyber-physical systems, sensor networks, machine learning, data mining, and information fusion. Offers a unique interdisciplinary perspective bridging social networks, big data, cyber-physical systems, and reliability Presents novel theoretical foundations for assured social sensing and modeling humans as sensors Includes case studies and application examples based on real data sets Supplemental material includes sample datasets and fact-finding software that implements the main algorithms described in the book
