This book presents selected papers from the International Conference of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering 2019 (AeroMech 2019), held at the Universiti Sains Malaysia's School of Aerospace Engineering. Sharing new innovations and discoveries concerning the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), with a focus on 3D printing, big data analytics, Internet of Things, advanced human-machine interfaces, smart sensors and location detection technologies, it will appeal to mechanical and aerospace engineers.
This book presents selected and peer-reviewed proceedings of the International Conference on Thermofluids (KIIT Thermo 2020). It focuses on the latest studies and findings in the areas of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and combustion. Some of the topics covered in the book include electronic cooling, HVAC system analysis, inverse heat transfer, combustion, nano-fluids, multiphase flow, high-speed flow, and shock waves. The book includes both experimental and numerical studies along with a few review chapters from experienced researchers, and is expected to lead to new research in this important area. This book is of interest to students, researchers as well as practitioners working in the areas of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and combustion.
This book contains a collection of the main contributions from the third edition of the NICFD conference, organized by the Special Interest Group on Non-Ideal Compressible Fluid Dynamics (SIG-49). It provides insight on the latest research findings in the field of NICFD that are relevant to a number of engineering applications related to the conversion of renewable and waste energy sources, like organic Rankine cycles, supercritical CO2 cycle power plants, combustors operating with supercritical fluids, and heat pumps. The various chapters of the book document research encompassing theoretical, computational, and experimental aspects of the gas dynamics of non-ideal reactive and non-reactive flows and their impact for the design of internal flow components (turbomachinery, heat exchangers, combustors). Since the accurate calculation of fluid thermo-physical properties is of great concern in NICFD, all the chapters address this problem by describing state-of-the-art models for the characterization of the properties of pure fluids and mixtures.
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), which uses numerical analysis to predict and model complex flow behaviors and transport processes, has become a mainstream tool in engineering process research and development. Complex chemical processes often involve coupling between dynamics at vastly different length and time scales, as well as coupling of different physical models. The multiscale and multiphysics nature of those problems calls for delicate modeling approaches. This book showcases recent contributions in this field, from the development of modeling methodology to its application in supporting the design, development, and optimization of engineering processes.
The mitigation of oil spills is an important facet of environmental protection. Understanding oil spills is a first step toward preventing and minimizing their damage to the environment. This compilation presents several of the current studies related to such an understanding of oil spills and the environment. This book is a compilation of 14 papers presenting new developments in the field of oil spills, giving insight into the rapidly changing world of oil spill studies and technology. The 14 papers included cover topics varying from risk analysis to oil spill remote sensing. Broadly categorized, included are six papers on modeling, four papers on remote sensing, three papers on risk assessment, and one paper on oil spill countermeasures. Each paper presents a unique insight into a facet of oil spill research and technology. The authors of these papers represent many different countries and affiliations around the world.
Mixed-flow Pumps Modeling, Simulation, and Measurements Learn to improve and optimize the design and operation of mixed-flow pumps Mixed-flow pumps have a huge range of applications in agriculture, hydroelectric power, and other industries that incorporate fluid transport. They are centrifugal pumps incorporating the characteristics of both axial and radial pumps to increase the flow rate and discharge pressure. Though essential in a variety of industries, they pose serious challenges to numerical simulation methods, challenges which are starting to be met by the application of computational fluid dynamics using high-performance computing. Mixed-flow Pumps introduces engineers and researchers to this subject and its important applications. Incorporating all major varieties of mixed-flow pumps used in industrial applications, it employs methods from advanced computational fluid dynamics and high-precision flow field experimentation to characterize and analyze these crucial technologies. Moving from the fundamentals of the technology to its most advanced applications, it’s an essential resource for engineers and industry practitioners looking to develop their understanding of fluid transport. Mixed-flow Pumps readers will also find: Detailed information on how to design and optimize mixed-flow pumps to meet the increasingly stringent industry demands Detailed information on energy performance tests and experiments, methods for data analysis, entropy production theory, CFD solutions using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations, and more An authoritative team with immense global experience in flow pumps and broader industrial experience Mixed-flow Pumps is a useful reference for mixed-flow pump design by academic researchers, including graduate students, industry practitioners, and test engineers.
