Abstract: In a handbook designed for pediatric and child health specialists, a comprehensive study of human growth is presented. Volume 1 covers general principles and prenatal growth, including sections on developmental biology, biometrical methods, genetics, and the field or prenatal growth. Volume 2 deals with postnatal growth with chapters on cellular growth, auxological anthropometry, body composition and energy needs; infants, preschool children, and adolescents; puberty, muscle, fat, and the skeleton; dentition, maturation, and physical activity. Volume 3 covers neurobiology and nutrition, including fetal and infant perception, cerebral cortex, central nervous system, breathing control, sleep, sexual differentiation, critical periods, infants, behavior, malnutrition, environment and genetic factors, epidemiology, obesity, nutritional deficiencies, mental development and learning, and a literature review.
