Contains well-illustrated real images of tests and instruments helpful to recollect and retain the concepts easily Organizes in a practical examination-oriented format including different sections such as Qualitative Analysis, Quantitative Analysis, Charts, Spotters and Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE) Provides the questions along with every chapter for better comprehension Useful for daily practical work of students as it helps to carry out experiments, recognize the errors during experimentation, improve practical skills, sharpen the observation ability, develop interpretation capacity to enable biochemical diagnosis of different clinical conditions, and perform brilliantly in practical examinations Assists faculty and auxiliary staff in setting up laboratory for practical work as the details of reagent preparations are readily accessible with each chapter
Introductory Practical Biochemistry, designed to cater to the requirements of students of biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology etc. covers modern techniques employed for qualitative and quantitative analysis of biomolecules. The techniques for genetic transformation etc., have been included to give preliminary information to the beginners in the field of genetic engineering. Radioisotopic and immunological techniques also find a place in the book. Each chapter starts with introductory details of the techniques followed by simple laboratory exercises. The book provides concise information on theoretical and practical aspects of the techniques employed in biochemical studies for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, Instructors and Research workers.
Fully revised, new edition presenting latest developments in medical biochemistry. Includes many new chapters and case reports. Previous edition published in 2006.
This book presents a selection of tried and trusted laboratory experiments in the field of biochemistry. The experiments are described in detail and can be used directly or in a modified form. They are grouped according to a broad range of biochemical disciplines which allows those responsible for arranging practical classes to select experiments to complement any given biochemistry course. Suggestions are made for further work in more advanced classes. As well as the practical method the experiments are accompanied by background information, discussion of results, references for further study and illustrations.
Uniquely integrates the theory and practice of key experimental techniques for bioscience undergraduates. Now includes drug discovery and clinical biochemistry.
Based on BHMS syllabus by CCH.This book deals with the basic knowledge of practical biochemistry but also its application in actual clinical practice.Creates an abiding interest in the practical aspects of the subject.
Biochemistry Explained employs an innovative approach which has proven highly successful in the author's own classes. The author establishes a thorough understanding of the foundations of and common linkages between molecular structures and reactions, so that eventual interpretation of complex biochemical pathways and reactions is easy. All of the major molecular structures and biochemical pathways are explained, and, for the most part, these center on mammalian biochemistry. The text is supported by biochemical nomenclature and questions to bear in mind while reading. Higher learning sections are also provided for advanced students. Written in an informal, conversational style, this textbook will serve as an invaluable resource for any student who is struggling with the standard texts and for postgraduate students who need to refresh their knowledge.
New edition of biochemistry textbook which introduces principles and techniques used in undergraduate practical classes.
Clinical biochemistry is an analytical and interpretative science. The analytical part involves the determination of the level of chemical components in body fluids and tissues. The interpretative part examines these results and uses them in the diagnosis of disease, the screening for susceptibility to specific diseases, and the monitoring of the progress of treatment. This book is designed to cover the major techniques and analytical instruments used in clinical biochemistry. Each chapter of this book is based on a specific technique, or techniques, with associated instrumentation. These are discussed in some detail. A historical introduction is included for most of the techniques, and the current uses of the techniques are presented. Following that is a series of practical exercises. The first exercises in most of the chapters are a general introduction to the technique, leading to those with a clinical bias. Where applicable, the clinical practical exercises are associated with a case history and/or the discussion of the relevance of the assay to diagnosis and prognosis and to the monitoring of recovery. Each chapter concludes with a selection of appropriate references.
