The changes and additions which were necessitated by the great ad vance made during the last decade in our knowledge of a number of the diseases of children, as well as by the unavoidable omission of any con sideration of several important subjects in the previous editions of this work, were, however, of so extensive a character that it has been found necessary to associate a collaborator in the preparation of the present edition.
