Eschew all fermented and distilled beverages, together with those having any tendency to excite-your nerves; in other words, avoid every beverage, except plain wnrter. Even with this, the system must not be deluged. From 2 to 4 tumblers full may be sipped slowly during the day. You may drink either half an hour before, or 2-hours after meals. Soups and other half semi-liquid foods, are nothing but mixtures of solid particles with water; and have the same injurious effect on digestion, as the drinking with meals has. As the quantity of food and drink absorbed, largely depends upon its quality, we can reduce it to the normal in the following manner: ---l (5.) T/re qurml/'ty (f'jl)0l, by avoiding spices, which increase one's appetite artificially, and (6.) the amount of beverages, by rejecting spices as well as heating drinks. As heating we designnte everything liquid (including fruit ices, lemonade, and other summer drinks), except plain water. Distilled water is the purest and most wholesome.
