Fitz-John Porter letters to various correspondents, including J. Monroe, H.C. Longnecker, J.T. Sprague, and Henry B. Dawson, 1859-1871, discuss military operations during the Mormon rebellion in Utah and the Civil War. There is also a printed letter signed by him, defending his conduct during the Second Battle of Bull Run, and a copy of the 1879 report which reversed the finding of the court martial which found him guilty of misconduct there. A portrait and some letters are tipped into the report.
