Excerpt from The Emerald Isle: A Poem Submit to be enslaved by an alien power. They have fought the Dane and the Saxon for nearly a thousand years, and though overpowered on the field of battle again and again by superior numbers and illimitable wealth, they have never been conquered. A race that has fought for national liberty a thousand years is invincible. They must eventually succeed in gaining their independence. They must and shall be free to rule the country God gave them for their own use, and not the use of England. The author offers this little poem as a Christmas gift to his native land. The offering is small, but it comes from a heart upon which is indelibly stamped the beautiful image of his own loved Emerald Isle. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
