This collection of essays presents insight and methodology that are highly relevant for readers today as they consider the future of the world they live in. Experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, people have realized how fragile the current economy is and the necessity for reconstructing the socio-economic system. That system, which was considered the default for so long, was succeeded by the analytical framework of economics and regional science. The Ring Theory Conference, held a the University of Miskolc, Hungary, successfully accomplished its two goals: to reflect contemporary trends in the subject area; and to offer a meeting place for a large number of Eastern European algebraists and their colleagues from around the world. Particular emphasis was placed on recent developments in the following four areas: representation theory, group algebras, PI algebras and general ring theory. The second volume continues--and presumably concludes since they date to two years after his death--the selection of almost all of Amitsur's (1921-1994) work demonstrating his wide and enduring contribution to algebra, though some in Hebrew and some expositions are not included. The sections here are combinatorial polynomial identity theory and division algebras, each introduced by a mathematician. This book develops abstract homotopy theory from the categorical perspective with a particular focus on examples. Part I discusses two competing perspectives by which one typically first encounters homotopy (co)limits: either as derived functors definable when the appropriate diagram categories admit a compatible model structure, or through particular formulae that give the right notion in certain examples. Emily Riehl unifies these seemingly rival perspectives and demonstrates that model structures on diagram categories are irrelevant. Homotopy (co)limits are explained to be a special case of weighted (co)limits, a foundational topic in enriched category theory. In Part II, Riehl further examines this topic, separating categorical arguments from homotopical ones. Part III treats the most ubiquitous axiomatic framework for homotopy theory - Quillen's model categories. Here, Riehl simplifies familiar model categorical lemmas and definitions by focusing on weak factorization systems. Part IV introduces quasi-categories and homotopy coherence.
