This volume, subtitled, Agricultural Requirements and Upstream Watershed Development, includes the following topics: Description of the Basin; Economic Development--Present and projected (1980-2015); Water and Related Land Resources Problems and Needs; Water and Land Resource Development Potential; Existing Programs, Projects and Opportunities for Meeting Some of the Basin Needs; Plan Formulation--USDA and USDA water and Related Land Resource Projects and Measures Recommended for Early Action.
Due to the increased emphasis upon comprehensive and coordinated planning, there is a need for a better and more complete understanding of the role of the State in the development and management of water and related land resources. This role depends largely on the laws and programs of the State. The purpose of this appendix is to identify laws and programs of the States of Mississippi and Alabama relating to the development of water and related land resources and to show the role of the states in the comprehensive study of the Pascagoula River Basin.
Contents: Pascagoula River Comprehensive Basin STudy--Views of Federal and State Agencies on Comprehensive Plan; Assurances of Local Cooperation; and Digest of Public Hearings.
Contents: Municipal and Industrial Water Supply and Water Quality Control Study, Mississippi and Alabama; Recreation Aspects of the Pascagoula River Basin, Mississippi and Alabama; Fish and Wildlife Aspects of the Pascagoula River Basin, Mississippi and Alabama; Appraisal of Archeological and Historical Resources of the Pascagoula River Basin; Geology and Groundwater Resources of the Pascagoula River Basin; and Mineral Resources and Industry of the Pascagoula River Basin, Mississippi and Alabama.
This appendix, subtitled 'Some Health Aspects of Water and Related Land Use of the Pascagoula River Basin', discusses the following subjects: Water Contact Recreation; Shellfish Sanitation; Vector Control; and Drinking Water Supply.
This appendix contains the results of an economic base study of the Pascagoula River Basin. The study's purpose was to project the economic growth of the basin to 1965, 1980 and 2015 for guidance in the preparation of a plan of development for the water and related land resources of the basin and for use in the evaluation of benefits that would accrue from such development. The need for water and related land resource development is dependent upon the size of the population of the basin and the economic activity in which the population is engaged. Major parameters of the general economic activity included in this economic base study are population, households, labor force, employment and personal income. The agricultural economy of the basin is broken down into agricultural land resource base, farm characteristics and types, agricultural production, forest production and cash receipts from farm marketings.
This appendix, prepared by the Corps of Engineers, is devoted principally to engineering studies for major reservoirs in the early-action program and to related investigations and material. It contains Corps authorities for participation in the Pascagoula River Comprehensive Basin Study; brief summaries of prior reports; summaries of hydrology studies concerning water availability, storm types, previous storms and floods, low flow and flood flow frequencies; flood damage studies; general design criteria; project formulation studies and descriptions of early-action major reservoir projects; navigation studies; and hydroelectric power studies. Also included are sedimentation studies performed for the Corps of Engineers by the Department of Agriculture.
