The proceedings of the Sixth Mexican Workshop on Particles and Fields hosted a large number of students who learned about the current status of High Energy Physics, from the interesting new results found at LEP to the latest developments in string theory. Besides courses and lectures, there were three round table discussions held on Experiment, Phenomenology, and Theory, respectively, which provoked a lively debate on the future of particle physics.
Neutrinos are one of the most abundant particles in the universe. Because they have very little interaction with matter, however, they are incredibly difficult to detect. Neutrinos are similar to the more familiar electron, with one crucial difference: neutrinos do not carry electric charge. Because neutrinos are electrically neutral, they are not affected by the electromagnetic forces which act on electrons. Three types of neutrinos are known. Each type or 'flavour' of neutrino is related to a charged particle (which gives the corresponding neutrino its name). Hence, the 'electron neutrino' is associated with the electron, and two other neutrinos are associated with heavier versions of the electron called the muon and the tau. The book presents citations from the literature for the last three years from the journal literature and the existent book literature. Access is provided by subject, author and title indexes.
The Division of Particles and Fields of the Mexican Physical Society (DPF-MPS) organized the X Mexican School of Particles and Fields (X MSPF). This meeting was dedicated to celebrate the 60th birthdays of Augusto Garcia and Arnulfo Zepeda, pioneers of this field in Latin America. The scientific program of the X MSPF included 70 review lectures on the most recent advances in high energy physics: experiment, theory, and phenomenology. Leading lecturers from more than ten countries presented their material at plenary sessions. Contributed papers were presented in a poster session. The topics covered during the X MSPF are the following: Precision tests of the standard model, QCD, neutrino physics, SUSY, experimental high energy physics, new physics and effective theories, quantum field theory, strings, quantum gravity, and cosmology.
The main focus of this school was to teach about experimental techniques for particle, nuclear, cosmic ray, and medical physics by means of laboratory sessions, lecture courses, and review talks. It was aimed primarily at graduate students with some participation of young post-doctoral students. This volume includes lecture courses on: Particle identification, tracking detectors, front-end electronics and signal processing, triggering and data acquisition general considerations, confidence intervals, as well as calorimetry.

We read in order to know we are not alone, I once heard, and perhaps it could also be suggested that we write in order not to be alone, to endorse, to promote continuity. The idea for this book took about 10 years to materialize, and it is the author’s hope that its content will constitute the beginning of further explorations beyond current horizons. More speci cally, this book appeals to the reader to engage upon and persevere with a journey, moving through the less well explored territories in the evolution of the very early universe, and pushing towards new landscapes. P- haps, during or after consulting this book, this attitude and this willingness will be embraced by someone, somewhere, and this person will go on to enrich our quantum cosmological description of the early universe, by means of a clearer supersymm- ric perspective. It is to these creative and inquisitive ‘young minds’ that the book is addressed. The reader will not therefore nd in this book all the answers to all the problems regarding a supersymmetric and quantum description of the early universe, and this remark is substantiated in the book by a list of unresolved and challenging problems, itself incomplete.
