El siguiente trabajo tuvo como objetivo analizar si los estilos parentales predicen la creatividad en tareas de papel y lápiz, y la percepción que tiene el niño de sí mismo sobre su creatividad. Se trabajó con una muestra de 219 niños de 9 a 12 años de edad de diferentes centros educativos de la provincia de Entre Ríos, Argentina. Se administró una adaptación de la Escala Argentina de Percepción de la Relación con los Padres para niños de Richaud de Minzi basada en el modelo Schaefer, la prueba de figuras del Test de Pensamiento Creativo de Torrance Forma B y la Escala de Personalidad Creadora heteroevaluación de Garaigordobil. Los resultados mostraron que la aceptación parental es un predictor positivo de la creatividad. Además, la disciplina laxa es un factor inhibidor del proceso creativo del niño. Finalmente, el control patológico desde los estilos parentales se relacionó negativamente con la creatividad.
Psychologist Diana Baumrind's revolutionary prototype of parenting, called authoritative parenting, combines the best of various parenting styles. In contrast to previously advocated styles involving high responsiveness and low demandingness (i.e., permissive parenting) or low responsiveness and high demandingness (i.e., authoritarian parenting), authoritative parenting involves high levels of both responsiveness and demandingness. The result is an appropriate mix of warm nurturance and firm discipline. Decades of research have supported the prototype, and we now know that authoritative parenting fosters high achievement, emotional adjustment, self-reliance, and social confidence in children and adolescents. In this book, leading scholars update our thinking about authoritative parenting and address three unresolved issues: mechanisms of the style's effectiveness, variations of effectiveness across cultures, and untangling how parents influence children from how children influence them. Complaints are often made that recommendations about how to rear children are contradictory and, therefore, not helpful. In this Element we survey the history of theory and research relevant to childrearing in an attempt to show how apparent differences can be resolved. We suggest that socialization occurs in different domains, with each domain fostering socialization in a different way. Thus there is no all-purpose principle or mechanism of socialization but, rather, different forms of relationship between child and agent that serve a different function, involve different rules for effecting behavior change, and facilitate different outcomes. Using this framework, we survey research relevant to different domains, including the roles played by parents, siblings, and peers in the socialization process. We follow this with a discussion of how culture and biology make their contribution to an understanding of domains of socialization.

For many decades, parenting has been at the center of interest for practitioners and researchers interested in child social and psychological development. The body of research on children’s socialization has primarily focused on traditional parenting styles and their related practices in the spirit of Baumrind’s and others’ conceptualization of parental control and power assertion (e.g. authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive). This research has revealed many domains of children’s and adolescents’ adjustment and wellbeing that are affected by and affecting parenting quality, but intriguing new parental approaches and types have recently emerged in research literature, such as digital parenting, transcendent parenting, parental alienation, overparenting/helicopter parenting, tiger parenting, and several others, about which more is yet to be learned. Likewise, in recent years, our understanding of the role played by factors such as culture/ethnicity, environmental, and familial background in the relationship between parenting styles and children’s psychological wellbeing and mental health has greatly improved. However, the question of whether or not there is a global, uniform optimal parenting remains controversial, as more studies are required to better understand the varying impacts of parenting on the child’s well-being within different demographic and familial contexts. This is especially true for families with special needs children (i.e., children and adolescents with developmental and psychological disabilities), where research on parenting styles, in particular, is understudied. Additionally, in the present digital era, there is growing interested in relatively new behavioral outcomes in children and adolescents, such as sedentary behaviors, including eating and nutrition habits, online behaviors, and digital activity vs. physical activity.
