A Grandfathers bequest to his grandchildren which includes humour, truth and advice for coping with life pressures as they grow and mature to adulthood.
As I was reading to my grandkids several basic Alphabet ABC's books, I was a bit disappointed with some of the illustrations or cartoons used in those books to illustrate the letters of the alphabet. I thought to myself that I have taken 1000's of pictures over the years and I could put some of them in a book based on the first letter of the subject's picture and create an ABC's high-quality photo book out of it. I wanted to make this simple and universal - pictures of basic things to which all kids can relate. So, hopefully, your children and grandchildren will enjoy this as much as my grandchildren do. More than just the words and pictures, you can create a story about each one and let the child tell you about it! That's what real learning is all about! Contains over 110 color photos all taken by me through the years (one photo on an 8 1/2" x 11" page) printed with a high quality printing process on high quality no-bleed paper. This paperback book is sturdy for children to handle over and over.
In 1889, young Moses and his family sell everything they own and leave their Baltimore, Maryland, home to join many other settlers--black and white--in a race to claim land in the newly-opened territory of Oklahoma.
The very funny Brian P. Cleary takes on the alphabet in this whimsical tour of everyone's 26 favorite letters. Rhyming, giggle-inspiring verses are illustrated with colorful digital collage artwork by Betsy Snyder. For added fun, every letter is hidden within the artwork—as are several objects starting with each letter!
What country holds the title as the world's smallest continent and yet the world's largest island? I stands for island, but one that's not too small. Our island is enormous. Just try to see it all! There's no place else quite like it; that is clearly true. Australia is a continent, but it's an island, too. Originally founded as a penal colony, Australia has long been known for its contrasts (think: wild outback and sophisticated Sydney Opera House). Accompanied by vibrant colorful artwork, D is for Down Under: An Australia Alphabet captures the spirit of this proud country and its many treasures, natural and man-made. Visit spectacular Sydney Harbor, try your hand as a jackaroo working a sheep station, or just sit back and enjoy a Vegemite sandwich. Below the starry night glitter of the Southern Cross constellation, Australia's "down under" wonders shine brightly. Devin Scillian is an award-winning author and Emmy-award-winning broadcast journalist. His books with Sleeping Bear Press include the national bestseller A is for America: An American Alphabet. His career began as a graphic designer, after graduating from Prahran College in Melbourne. Soon realizing he wanted to be an illustrator, he became a partner in the illustration studio All Australian Graffiti. He lives in Australia.
