CollaborateCom is an annual international forum for dissemination of original ideas and research results in collaborative computing networks, systems, and applications. A major goal and feature of CollaborateCom is to bring researchers from networking, systems, CSCW, collaborative learning, and collaborative education areas - gether. CollaborateCom 2008 held in Orlando, Florida, was the fourth conference of the series and it reflects the accelerated growth of collaborative computing, both as research and application areas. Concretely, recent advances in many computing fields have contributed to the growing interconnection of our world, including multi-core architectures, 3G/4G wi- less networks, Web 2. 0 technologies, computing clouds, and software as a service, just to mention a few. The potential for collaboration among various components has - ceeded the current capabilities of traditional approaches to system integration and interoperability. As the world heads towards unlimited connectivity and global c- puting, collaboration becomes one of the fundamental challenges for areas as diverse as eCommerce, eGovernment, eScience, and the storage, management, and access of information through all the space and time dimensions. We view collaborative c- puting as the glue that brings the components together and also the lubricant that makes them work together. The conference and its community of researchers dem- strate the concrete progress we are making towards this vision. The conference would not have been successful without help from so many people.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th IFIP WG 5.5 Working Conference on Virtual Enterprises, PRO-VE 2016, held in Porto, Portugal, in October 2016. The 57 revised papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 148 submissions. This publication presents the latest innovations and achievements of academic communities on Decision Support Systems (DSS). These advances include theory systems, computer-aided methods, algorithms, techniques and applications related to supporting decision making. The aim is to develop approaches for applying information systems technology to increase the effectiveness of decision making in situations where the computer system can support and enhance human judgements in the performance of tasks that have elements which cannot be specified in advance. Also it is intended to improve ways of synthesizing and applying relevant work from resource disciplines to practical implementation of systems that enhance decision support capability. The resource disciplines include: information technology, artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology, decision theory, organizational theory, operations research and modeling. Researchers come from the Operational Research area but also from Decision Theory, Multicriteria Decision Making methodologies, Fuzzy sets and modeling tools. Based on the introduction of Information and Communication Technologies in organizations, the decisional process is evolving from a mono actor to a multi actor situation in which cooperation is a way to make the decision.
nd The 2 International Conference on Web-Based Learning (ICWL 2003) took place in Melbourne, Australia. ICWL 2003 followed the tradition of the successful ICWL 2002 held in Hong Kong and aimed at providing an in-depth study of the technical and pedago- cal issues, as well as incorporating management issues of Web-based learning. Additionally, there was a focus on issues of interest to the learner, o?ering the optimal Web based learning environment to achieve high academic results. - akin University organized this conference in conjunction with the Hong Kong WebSociety,toprovideaforumwhichgatherededucators,researchers,techno- gists and implementers of Web-based learning from around the world to discuss, collaborate and advance all relevant issues pertaining to this area of research. The main focus of ICWL 2003 was on the most critical areas of Web-based learning, in particular, Web-based learning environments, virtual universities, pedagogical issues related to Web-based learning, multimedia-based e-learning, interactive e-learning systems, intelligence in on-line education, e-learning so- tions, CSCL, and authoring tools for e-learning. In total, the conference received 118 papers from researchers and practitioners from 13 countries. Each paper was reviewed by at least three internationally renowned referees. Papers were ri- rously examined and selected based on their originality, signi?cance, correctness, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Among the high-quality submissions, 50 papers were accepted and included in the proceedings. Later, the proceedings editors will recommend that some high-quality papers from the conference be published in a special issue of an international journal.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on End-User Development, IS-EUD 2017, held in Hatfield, UK, in July 2019. The 9 full papers and 8 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 35 submissions. The papers discuss progress in research around end-user development through, or towards, methods, socio-technical environments, intelligent agents, as well as the most effective end-user programming paradigms for smart environments. Papers and submissions in all categories addressed this specific theme together with topics that have been traditionally covered by the broader themes of end-user development, such as domain specific tools, spreadsheets, educational applications, and end user aspects.
