Excerpt from Our Anniversary Catalog, 1925 Progressive Everbearing (per.) This variety is very productive and a sure cropper every season. If the blossoms happen to get killed by the late frosts in the Spring, the plants will throw up new fruiting stems, and produce a full crop just the same as if noth ing had happened. This feature, alone should justify every grower in planting the ever b'earers. Plants are medium in size, very thrifty, and full of' vitality, and on a fairly rich, moist soil, are good plant makers. Fruit is medium in size, and in shape similar to the Dunlap. Firm of good quality and color. The Currant, although a small fruit, is very easily raised. The old wood should be cut out and the plants kept well manured. An easy method of destroying the currant worm is by the use of. Powdered white hellebore. One or two applications are generally sufficient. Fay's Prolific. The leading market variety. Extra large stems and berries, uniform in size, easily picked, exceedingly productive. London Market. A particularly valuable vari' ety for northern climates. The plant is extremely hardy and Vigorous, and retains its foliage. Throughout the season. Beautiful in color, large in size and a very heavy _cropper. Ships well, and is excellent for market either near or distant. In 1867 a little group inspired by the same Mrs. Johns, had organized the Ladies Library association, supported out of membership dues, lecture courses, and oyster suppers. It brought to Decatur for the first time Mark Twain, Wendell Phillips, John G. Saxe, Blind Tom and Susan B. Anthony. Its life was a struggle. The courage and faith of Mrs. A. A. Powers, one of the noblest of Decatur's pioneer women, and her associates on the board kept it going. One year the men agreed to pro vide the means, and came up to the end with a deficit of $312. We were to receive a month, and furnish our own uniforms and books. After the new home was completed, we had more room and more comforts. The chapel was made into a sitting room, where occasionally we had music, or a dance, and the Little Lady In White would occasionally join in the merry-making. Nurse-doctor relationship was to be strictly professional. Nurses were forbidden to have social conversation with medical students or doctors and to see them after hours was just out of the question. However, twenty graduated with me and four married doctors. Even the telephone conversations were censored when the coding was discovered. Meant same old meeting place. Then there was trusty Wilbur, a night orderly who conveyed notes for nurses and doctors. One night he was hailed by the medical superintendent as he made rounds, and asked Wilbur where he was going. I was asked to get some specimen bottles from the lab. Excuse me, Doctor, I have to cough. He turned around and coughed and swallowed the note. Paper eater Wilbur saved the nurse's neck and the incident te mained a standing joke for some time. The unfortunate nurse to be caught was punished by a night duty stretch, special duty, or suspension of late leaves.
