This book is the seventh in a series of annual state-of-the-art surveys of optical storage technology, concepts, research, product developments, and applications. It updates a discussion begun in Optical Disks 1985: a State of the Art Review (Meckler, 1985) and continued in that publication's five successors: Optical Disks for Data and Document Storage (Meckler, 1986); Optical Storage Technology 1987: a State of the Art Review (Meckler, 1987); Optical Storage Technology 1988: a State of the Art Review (Meckler, 1988); Optical Storage Technology 1989: a State of the Art Review (Meckler, 1989); and Optical Storage Technology 1990-91: a State of the Art Review (Meckler, 1990). Like its predecessors, this report is intended for information specialists, data processing administrators, computer systems analysts, records managers, office systems analysts, librarians, archivists, and others responsible for evaluating, planning, procuring, implementing, and/or operating optical information systems for data and document storage.
