It is amazing to think that time has passed by and that the second BMW "3 Series" has achieved such status that it warrants this special book on its 21st anniversary. Maybe it is due to the sheer longevity of its design, its ability to satisfy the keen driver or its iconic status - but, whatever it is, there is no doubt that the E30 is one car from the past that will stay with us into the future. It is a pending classic and prices for well kept models have started to escalate; furthermore, there is a core of well cared for cars out there requiring basic attention by their dedicated owners. As a result, there has never been a better time for a book of this sort. By focusing on the common faults which crop up repeatedly and by giving detailed, simple instructions regarding repairs, this book will be uniquely invaluable for owners who wish to try their hand at their own maintenance, especially those who may previously have been prevented from doing so by a lack of technical know-how or specific knowledge.
A practical restoration manual written by journalist and E30 enthusiast Andrew Everett. Professional advice also is given on buying a good used model E30 for restoration.
During the 1960s GM decided that a change of image would improve sales of the Opel, so designers and engineers were imported from the US to give the German company a shot in the arm and one of the results was the Opel GT which made its debut at Frankfurt in 1965. It was seen as a sort of European Corvette - a high-performance two-seater with dramatic styling. The Opel GT was never a very big seller and in 1973 its manufacturers withdrew it from the market altogether. In five years of production, just 103,463 cars had been sold, of which 37,726 had been the Model 77 for the US market. These low sales had also discouraged the company from producing right-hand drive models. In some ways, the GT is better appreciated now than it was when new and the articles in this collection show that Opel GTs appeal to a wide variety of enthusiasts today.

In the early-1960s Opel displayed a dramatically styled GT concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Public reaction was positive and so it was put into production as the Opel GT in 1968. The initial model was based on the B-Series Opel Kadett and withdrawn after two years. The larger engined 1900GT was much better, but all cars left the factory with left-hand drive. However, it was never a big seller and was withdrawn from the market altogether in 1973. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, new model introductions, development, buying second hand, technical and specification data, long-term tests. Covers the GT and GT/J.
