This Act served to consolidate several pieces of legislation into one. 'Acts against the Person' is usually taken to mean an act of violence short of murder. At the time acts of violence also included sexual misconduct, but these have since been repealed and replaced with new Acts.
This book focusses on the evolution of the law and medical practice of abortion in England.
The principal statute dealing with offences of violence committed against others remains the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 (the 1861 Act). The considerations in this report focus primarily on those offences which deal with causing physical or psychiatric harm. However, because of their close connection with the 1861 Act offences, and in order to work towards coherent law reform in this area, offences such as assault and battery and the offence of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty, were also considered.
Within the criminal law, the area of offences against the person is an important and sometimes controversial subject. This book deals with both homicide, and non-fatal offences (including sex offences). The theoretical bases, and practical operation, of the main offences in all areas are discussed.
