Explains that Mr. Caleb Swan will be taking thirty five thousand dollars in post bank notes for the pay of the army, and that Sargent's name has been added to the notes for greater security. When Swan wants to exchange the notes for cash, he will need Sargent's to do so; asks that Sargent oblige.
Promise to pay Henry Knox [dollar sign] 20 from David Cook and Thomas Proctor.
Asks to borrow [dollar sign] 5000 for ninety days, per Smith's offer in a previous letter. Will provide a note endorsed by either Mr. [William] Duer or Captain [Thomas] Randall in which he promises to follow specific terms of repayment. Begs his prompt attention to the matter, and hopes to be able to secure the amount by the following Saturday.

Chronicles financial transactions between Henry Knox and William Duer from December 1791 to mid-February 1792. Information on page 2 indicates that a Francis Ingraham is willing to take up Mr. Duer's note.
The first part, at the top, is a note from John Pintard, explaining that he is sending Knox five thousand dollars in gold, per Duer's request. The note on the bottom is from William Duer, referring to the sum Pintard is sending, and mentioning that he will be sending more money on the following Tuesday. Pencil calculations on verso.
