Abstracted from newspapers filed in the archives of Colgate University, Hamilton, Madison County, New York. As vital records were not recorded in New York until after 1900, these abstracts help fill that void.
These abstracts include newspaper listings of births, deaths, and marriages that appeared in the Smyrna Times between 1874 and 1876. The records are organized alphabetically by last names of individuals as they appeared in the newspaper at that time.

Newspapers are a great source for genealogical research. Even more so for the State of South Carolina since it did not officially record Vital Records until the year 1911. So when a researcher is looking for a relative through a birth, a death or a marriage, newspaper abstracts are one of the few sources that the genealogist will have at their disposal. This book consists of abstracts of all the marriages, births and deaths that were contained within this newpaper. This newspaper not only covered the county of Pickens but also surrounding counties. If you have relatives lost in the Northwestern portion of the State, this book could have been that missing link.
Includes marriage, death, birth, and other notices.
