This is a review of new results on the tau lepton. The results include precise measurements of the lifetime, measurements of the decay tau− .-->. .pi.−2.pi.°nu/sub tau/ with much improved precision, and limits on decay modes containing eta mesons, including the second-class-current decay tau− .-->. .pi.−eta nu/sub tau/. The implications of these new results on the discrepancy in the one-charged-particle decay modes are discussed. 52 refs., 6 figs., 2 tabs.
This is a review of the recent results on the [tau] lepton. The results include precise measurements of the lifetime, measurements of the decay [tau]/sup /minus// .-->. .pi./sup /minus//2.pi.°.nu./sub [tau]/ with much improved precision, limits on decay modes containing [eta] mesons, including the second-class-current decay /tau//sup /minus// .-->. .pi./sup /minus//[eta].nu./sub /tau//, and limits on exotic decay modes. The implications of these results on the discrepancy in the one-charged-particle decay modes are discussed. 43 refs., 4 figs., 2 tabs.
The book reviews the current status of tau physics. It addresses the properties of the tau lepton and summarizes results achieved with tau leptons in the fields of precision tests of the Standard Model, investigations of the strong interaction and many searches for new physics beyond the scope of the Standard Model.
High Energy Physics 99 contains the 18 invited plenary presentations and 250 contributions to parallel sessions presented at the International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics. The book provides a comprehensive survey of the latest developments in high energy physics. Topics discussed include hard high energy, structure functions, soft interactions, heavy flavor, the standard model, hadron spectroscopy, neutrino masses, particle astrophysics, field theory, and detector development.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the XVIII International Symposium on Lepton-Photon Interactions. It contains 30 review papers on the latest developments by experts in the field. The subjects cover the structure of photons and hadrons, progress in QCD and diffraction, heavy quark (c, b, t) physics, electroweak precision measurements and tests, CP violation, neutrino physics, searches for new particles and phenomena, cosmology, progress in theory and physics at future colliders.
