Town and country planning has never been more important to the UK, nor more prominent in national debate. Patrick Geddes is considered a forefather of the modern urban planning movement. This book studies the various, and even opposing ways, in which Geddes has been interpreted up to this day, providing a new reading of his life, writing and plans. In October 1910 the Royal Institute of British Architects hosted the first ever international conference on Town Planning. The Transactions of this critical event in the development of planning as a profession and as a discipline were published a year later in 1911. Long out of print and very difficult to obtain, this new facsimile edition of the Transactions of the 1910 Conference now makes available – for planners and historians alike – this valuable primary resource.
