The proceedings contain invited papers and contributions which capture the recent advances in technology (beams, detectors, electronics, computing) and emphasize the new frontiers opened up in Nuclear Physics. Results with most of the existing multidetectors, as well as the progress of new developments, were presented. The presentations of EUROGAM, GAMMASPHERE, GASP, DIAMANT, ORION, EDEN, DEMON, the Texas Neutron Ball, the DWARF Ball, INDRA, FOBOS, AMPHORA, MEDEA and the SIS/ESR Particle Ball will also be included. The progress in data collection with the new integrated electronics, as well as transputer farm and network distributed processing, is also presented. Experimental results cover superdeformation, multifragmentation, neutron-rich isotopes, dissipative collisions, cluster states and radioactive beam measurements.
This book describes the Proceedings of the International Conference on Nuclear Data for Science and Technology held at Jillich in May 1991. The conference was in a series of application oriented nuclear data conferences organized in the past under the auspices of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Nuclear Data Committee (NEANDC) and with the support of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Committee on Reactor Physics (NEACRP). It was the fIrst international conference on nuclear data held in Germany, with the scientific responsibility entrusted to the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry of the Research Centre Jillich. The scientific programme was established by the International Programme Committee in consultation with the International Advisers, and the NEA and IAEA cooperated in the organization. A total of 328 persons from 37 countries and fIve international organizations participated. The scope of these Proceedings extends to a wide range of interdisciplinary topics dealing with measu rement, calculation, evaluation and application of nuclear data, with a major emphasis on numerical data. Both energy and non-energy related applications are considered and due attention is given to some fundamental aspects relevant to the understanding of nuclear data.

Many of the talks are in fact reviews of particular topics often not covered in standard books and other conferences, for instance, the medical physics section. To present these medical physics talks is crucial, since a large fraction of the community in medical physics are from the particle physics community. The same feature is true for astroparticle and space physics, which are relatively new fields. This book is unique in its scope. Except for IEEE, there is no other conference in the world that presents such a wide coverage of advanced technology applied to particle physics. However, unlike IEEE, more room is made in the book for reviews and general talks.
