"Today the Subcommittee on Energy Research and Production begins hearings on the International Nuclear Fuel Cycle Evaluation, known as INFCE. As many of you know, INFCE was a technical evaluation of all aspects of alternative nuclear fuel cycles to identify nonproliferation questions and advantages and disadvantages and methods to improve safeguards for existing technologies. The central theme of the hearing is to evaluate the implications of INFCE on the direction and priorities of the Nation's nuclear research, development and demonstration programs. In order to accomplish this, we will hear testimony covering many of the broad aspects of INFCE. This will include an historical understanding of the genesis and the purposes of INFCE, and a detailed look at the results of INFCE and how they support and diverge from current U.S. policies"--Page 1.
