Excerpt from Mystical Fellowship the Science of Christliness: A Catholic Eirenicon From the Exponents of the Mystical Gospel of Brotherliness The purpose, however, of this book is not to preach the Mystical Gospel, but rather to bring readers in contact with some of its treasures, and to show these treasures in an order and interpreta tion in which the value to the present and to the future can be well ascertained. The note of the Mysticism of Fellowship, that is, of genuine Catholic Mysticism, is its apprehension of the living, and, so to speak, corporeal, reality of every dogma of the Church of God. The treasure and precious coin in any bank are not correct or incorrect opinions or theories about money; but they are realities, which, as all the world knows, must be preserved intact, and which will never come back again of themselves once they are dissipated or lost. This work is a call to see what precious realities have been kept by the bankers or custodians of dogma in order that eventually they may be dis tributed among the people; that is, interpreted in their real value; and from thence desired as precious coin. "Mystic Christianity" is a fascinating exploration of mysticism in the teachings of Christianity written by William Walker Atkinson. An interesting and thought-provoking series of "lessons", this volume is highly recommended for those with an interest in the mystic roots of Christianity, and would make for a great addition to collections of related literature. The chapters of this book include: "The Coming of the Master", "The Mystery of the Virgin Birth", "The Mystic Youth of Jesus", "The Beginning of the Ministry", "The Foundation of the Work", "The Work of Organisation", "The Beginning of the End", etcetera. William Walker Atkinson (1862 - 1932) was an American attorney and author. He wrote numerous books under the pseudonym Yogi Ramacharaka, and was a keen occultist who pioneered the 'New Thought' movement. Many vintage texts such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this book now, in an affordable, high-quality, modern edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned biography of the author.
This brief, accessibly written volume introduces key figures, texts, and themes of the mystical tradition and shows how and why the mystics can speak to the church today. Jason Baxter, an expert educator and storyteller, explains that the mystical tradition offers a more robust understanding of God than our current shallow conceptions. Featuring engagement with primary sources and suitable for use in a variety of courses, this book argues that the mystics have much to say to contemporary Christians searching for authentic modes of spirituality.
