Although dialogues, face-to-face immediate interactions between two or more people, are always reciprocal, they are characterized by various kinds of asymmetrical dominance relationshipsorelationships which are embedded in a social context. At many local levels, asymmetries occur in turn-taking, initiatives and responses. At more global levels, patterns of dominance may result from culturally-established rules and inequalities of knowledge.
