What is a "non-devotional"? Typical devotions are date specific, approximately same in length, and the messaging, while definitely powerful, are written in a more casual, easy digestible format. Moments with the Master is numbered by day, 1-366, allowing it to be started any time during the year, and was written to provoke contemplation with the Lord. Deep in consideration, readable in style, Moments with the Master will encourage love and good deeds, as well as embolden believers to the Great Commission. Oh, how grand it would be if we all approached the complex issues facing politicians and society today with a heart that asked, "How is this response pleasing to the Father?" We would touch the environment with trembling hands, for it is His creation. We would protect the sanctity of life, for it is His domain. We would mete out judgment for violating laws, for He is just. We would tend the homeless and hungry, for He is compassionate. We would live a Christ-centered morality, for He is holy. We would better allocate our wealth and position, for His worth is beyond measure. All these things we would do even if it costs us or our lives, for He is greater even than death!
The author, Dale Manternach, is a second generation farmer/rancher; born, raised and educated in Scobey, Montana. During his one year at the University of Minnesota at age seventeen, his talent for writing composition was discovered and encouraged. He married a classmate from across the Canadian border, Lois Anderson. They parented four sons and two daughters. His marriage ended on August 6, 1995 when Lois went home to meet her Maker, her beloved Master. In 1999 he retired, met and married Alice Hedin and moved to Sioux Falls, SD to become a member of Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church. Most of these devotions were created from is seventy three years of eastern Montana life experiences, coupled with spiritual truths, principles, promises and testimonies of faith-builders he enjoyed in overcoming many of life's trials as a man of agriculture, a parent, and friend to many, and a devout, truly born-again man of God, hungry for God's Word. He is looking forward to a blessed eternity in Heaven with Jesus. I want to acknowledge and thank some key people who made his book possible: Pastor Mark Chase and his wife Mary for introducing me to Xulon Press Publishers. Friend Stan Pickard for helping get started. Typists and editors: Daughter Ingrid Lardson, Grand-daughter Nichole Larson, friend Heather Ellyson, friends Bill and Shirley Scott for various chores along the way, and my faithful mate Alice for some good ideas and daily encouragement, and showing special interest all the way. Where do you seek God? Are you waiting for him to appear in a monumental, life-altering event? In God Moments, Catholic blogger Andy Otto shows you how to discover the unexpected beauty of God’s presence in the story of ordinary things and in everyday routines like preparing breakfast or walking in the woods. Drawing on the Ignatian principles of awareness, prayer, and discernment, Otto will help you discover the transforming power of God’s presence in your life and better understand your place in the world. Andy Otto found God’s presence in surprising moments during his life—when, as a Jesuit scholastic, he taught children in Jamaica and also as he discerned the call to marriage with his wife. By combining elements of Ignatian spirituality with the lessons that came from his experiences, Otto identified three practices that helped him find God in all things: Awareness—Gain an understanding that God is present in the ordinary messiness of our lives such as battle with depression or sharing in the struggle of a friend. Prayer—Develop a prayer life using Ignatian practices such as asking for a morning grace and examining how your prayer was answered at the end of the day. That way you can focus on a personal relationship with God that finds everyday physical activities such as making a meal as an opportunity to talk to him. Discernment—The more you are aware of God’s presence and draw closer to him in prayer, the better you can learn how to plug into God’s narrative of the world in a way that enables you to participate in the divine story through the use of your gifts and talents. With God Moments as a guide, you’ll have a better understanding of how to seek personal wholeness in the reality of God’s presence in the ordinary and learn to accept his invitation to participate in his transformation of the world.
A devotional tapestry woven from the threads of Scripture, prayer, and meditation, this book will help readers relive life-changing moments with Jesus.
The author of this inspirational book has filled its pages with love and compassion, a rare insight into God's Word, and with love for all God's creatures. She sincerely believes that God loves everyone and wants each one to surrender his life to Him. She truly desires to be an instrument in His hands to spread His precious love to all. The poems, written over a period of years, are a product of her daily devotions early in the morning. She has gained a love for His Word through her daily study of the Bible and has been inspired by the many writers whose words she has loved and admired. The desire to write poetry was instilled in her at a young age as she had much time to ponder on God's love and the beauty of His creation. Throughout life He has been close by her side to guide her in His ways and to provide guidance through wonderful loving parents, dedicated teachers and Christian leaders. He has been her Counselor, Comforter and Guide through the difficult times in her life. The years were lonesome after losing her husband but a loving God has given her an entirely new life and given her the joy of serving Him. After her retirement she lived in the country and enjoyed hours of walking and praising God for the beauty He created for us to enjoy. These excursions gave her much material for her writing. She feels it is only fitting that these last years she has should be dedicated to writing poems and gratefully praising Him for His goodness through her lifetime. Her prayer is that Morning Moments With My Master will be an encouragement to all who read. Fern Hanlin Coberly was born in Kanawha County, West Virginia, July 21, 1928.
