The Handbook of Medical Image Processing and Analysis is a comprehensive compilation of concepts and techniques used for processing and analyzing medical images after they have been generated or digitized. The Handbook is organized into six sections that relate to the main functions: enhancement, segmentation, quantification, registration, visualization, and compression, storage and communication. The second edition is extensively revised and updated throughout, reflecting new technology and research, and includes new chapters on: higher order statistics for tissue segmentation; tumor growth modeling in oncological image analysis; analysis of cell nuclear features in fluorescence microscopy images; imaging and communication in medical and public health informatics; and dynamic mammogram retrieval from web-based image libraries. For those looking to explore advanced concepts and access essential information, this second edition of Handbook of Medical Image Processing and Analysis is an invaluable resource. It remains the most complete single volume reference for biomedical engineers, researchers, professionals and those working in medical imaging and medical image processing.Dr. Isaac N. Bankman is the supervisor of a group that specializes on imaging, laser and sensor systems, modeling, algorithms and testing at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He received his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Bogazici University, Turkey, in 1977, the MSc degree in Electronics from University of Wales, Britain, in 1979, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Israel Institute of Technology, Israel, in 1985. He is a member of SPIE. - Includes contributions from internationally renowned authors from leading institutions - NEW! 35 of 56 chapters have been revised and updated. Additionally, five new chapters have been added on important topics incluling Nonlinear 3D Boundary Detection, Adaptive Algorithms for Cancer Cytological Diagnosis, Dynamic Mammogram Retrieval from Web-Based Image Libraries, Imaging and Communication in Health Informatics and Tumor Growth Modeling in Oncological Image Analysis. - Provides a complete collection of algorithms in computer processing of medical images - Contains over 60 pages of stunning, four-color images
This book is an international collection of contributions from academia, industry and the armed forces. It addresses current and emerging Spatial Vision Models and their application to the understanding, prediction and evaluation of the tasks of target detection and recognition. The discussion in many of the chapters is framed in terms of military targets and military vision aids. However, the techniques analyses and problems are by no means limited to this area of application. The detection and recognition of an armored vehicle from a reconnaissance image are performed by the same visual system used to detect and recognize a tumor in an X-ray. The analysis of the interaction of the human visual system with night vision devices is not different from the analysis needed in the case of an operator examining structures using a remote (endoscopic) camera, etc. The book is organized into three general sections. The first covers basic modeling of central (foveal) vision and its theoretical background. The second is centered on the evaluation of model performance in applications, while the third is dedicated to aspects of peripheral vision modeling and the expansion of peripheral modeling to include visual search.
This first book on real-time computer vision will interest all involved in the design and programming of visually guided systems.
In recent years, the remarkable advances in medical imaging instruments have increased their use considerably for diagnostics as well as planning and follow-up of treatment. Emerging from the fields of radiology, medical physics and engineering, medical imaging no longer simply deals with the technology and interpretation of radiographic images. The limitless possibilities presented by computer science and technology, coupled with engineering advances in signal processing, optics and nuclear medicine have created the vastly expanded field of medical imaging. The Handbook of Medical Imaging is the first comprehensive compilation of the concepts and techniques used to analyze and manipulate medical images after they have been generated or digitized. The Handbook is organized in six sections that relate to the main functions needed for processing: enhancement, segmentation, quantification, registration, visualization as well as compression storage and telemedicine. * Internationally renowned authors(Johns Hopkins, Harvard, UCLA, Yale, Columbia, UCSF) * Includes imaging and visualization * Contains over 60 pages of stunning, four-color images
New materials are constantly being developed which may improve or transform many aspects of our lives, and nowhere is this more exciting than in the fields of vehicle and machinery technology. This book presents the proceedings of the 2022 International Conference on New Materials, Machinery and Vehicle Engineering (NMMVE 2022), held as a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, from 18 - 20 March 2022. NMMVE 2022 provides an international forum for researchers and engineers to present and discuss recent advances, new techniques, and applications in the fields of new materials, machinery and vehicle engineering, and attracts academics, scientists, engineers, postgraduates, and other professionals from a wide range of universities and institutions. A total of 121 submissions were received, from which 48 were accepted for inclusion in the conference and proceeding after a rigorous, standard single-blind reviewing process. The papers are grouped into 3 sections: machinery (30 papers); new materials (11 papers); and vehicle engineering (7 papers). Providing an overview of the latest developments in these fields, the book will be of interest to all those wishing to know more about new materials and machine and vehicle engineering.
Some of the best vision scientists in the world in their respective fields have contributed to chapters in this book. They have expertise in a wide variety of fields, including bioengineering, basic and clinical visual science, medicine, neurophysiology, optometry, and psychology. Their combined efforts have resulted in a high quality book that covers modeling and quantitative analysis of optical, neurosensory, oculomotor, perceptual and clinical systems. It includes only those techniques and models that have such fundamentally strong physiological, control system, and perceptual bases that they will serve as foundations for models and analysis techniques in the future. The book is aimed first towards seniors and beginning graduate students in biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, optometry, and psychology, who will gain a broad understanding of quantitative analysis of the visual system. In addition, it has sufficient depth in each area to be useful as an updated reference and tutorial for graduate and post-doctoral students, as well as general vision scientists.
New digital image processing and recognition methods, implementation techniques and advanced applications (television, remote sensing, biomedicine, traffic, inspection, robotics, etc.) are presented in this volume. Novel approaches (i.e. digital filters, source coding, neural networks etc.) for solving 2-D and 3-D problems are described. Many papers focus on the motion estimation and tracking recognition of moving objects. The increasingly important field of Cultural Heritage is also covered. Some papers are more theoretical or of review nature, while others contain new implementations and applications. Generally the book presents - for the above outlined area - the state of the art (theory, implementation, applications) with future trends. This book will be of interest not only to researchers, professors and students in university departments of engineering, communications, computers and automatic control, but also to engineers and managers of industries concerned with computer vision, manufacturing, automation, robotics and quality control.
