The residents of the Mesa Flats Resort in Arizona have done it allcareer, marriage, divorce, kids. You name it, and youll find someone whos lived through it. Mesa Flats is a retirement community for active, fifty-five-and-up folks who enjoy warm weather, golf, and heady banter. The HOA keeps an eye on everyone, but lately it seems like the HOA needs someone to keep an eye on it, too. Larry Armstrong, an Iowan by birth, serves as the HOA president. Marge Dunlap, the consummate event planner, works with a sidekickSissy Sprattle, a feisty, eighty-two-year-old from DCto keep the entertainment ball rolling in Mesa Flats. Dennis Packard does the handy work, and Carl Ziggler, a retired Omaha policeman, heads security. Things get a little flashy, though, when Marges old friend, Gail, comes to visit. Gail Simmons is from Columbus, Ohio. She loves seeing her old friend Marge; she loves the hot Sonora Desert weather, too. Maybe love is just in the air, especially when Gail meets Larry. Marge has her eye on a particularly charismatic prospector from Colorado, but bad seed Jack Stoker has his own outcome in mind. Things arent always relaxing at the Mesa Flats Resort but theyre always unexpected!
Mesa Flats Resort is an assortment of retirees who have chosen to live in this 55+, walled-in, friendly, upscale, active, trailer court community in the Sonoran Desert near Tucson. The five Homeowners Association Board of Directors and the resort residents caper though another year of feisty events, involving a tombstone shoot-out, an invasion by a drug gang, walking underground through a Titan missile base, a trip to Hawaii, road junkets through the West, including the Grand Canyon and Bisbee, romances, a vows celebration, holiday blues, freezes, follies, fights, barking dogs, and circling the wagons. Larry Armstrong, an lowan by birth and who served as president, finally, in despair, leaves and hides in Sedona. They find him. They always do . . .
Mythical Mesa Flats Resort rises out of the Arizona desert near Tucson as a walled-in community of 1,200 upscale units as the active retirees call their trailer homes. The inhabitants are a fun-loving collection of characters. Predators and Politics follows the capers of energetic, imaginative, mischievous residents. The homeowners association board attempts to keep people happy and following the HOA rules. Board members, Marge Dunlap, a former Ohio nurse, and Sissy Sprattle from Washington, D.C., give the HOA president, Larry Armstrong, a retired Iowa grade school principal, more than he can manage. Marge chases after Digger Duncan, the old Colorado prospector. Gail Simmons, Marges friend from Ohio, flirts with Larrys advances. Jack Stoker is the troublemaker; John Bennoween, a questionable CIA retiree, is the sage. As the year unfolds, residents fend off predators, human and non-human, and engage in unpleasant, contentious, political antics. Through aggravations, dog days, a not so civil war, the kidnapping, a pumpkin festival, a trip to the deep, dark caverns, the Fourth of July fireworks, Larry, Marge, Digger, Sissy, and other Mesa Flats characters fill the pages with humor, adventure, and sometimes tears. Its a romp in the desert.
