When the wicked have traveled a course of sin, and discover they have reason to fear the God;s judgement and wrath for their sins, they begin to wish there is no God to punish them, then by degrees they persuade themselves there is no God, and then they set themselves to study the arguments to support their opinion. This excellent book by John Bunyan covers the subject matter of the existence of heaven and hell as well as studies and dispells the arguments presented by sinners who argue there is no heaven and hell. Most do not know that Bunyan wrote some 60 books, and poetry too. And also almost a well-kept secret is that his doctrine was so biblically laced that many good men would call him too severe. He believed in, and taught, ALL the doctrines of grace, including double-predestination, or reprobation. Why then is he not smeared with the name of hyper-Calvinist like Goodwin, Gill, and others? I guess the same people ought to call Luther a hyper-Lutheran, for he believed and taught it, too. Why begin a review of Bunyan's writings with such a view of his doctrine? It is to show that a Pilgrim's Progress can come only from someone who believes and teaches ALL the counsel of God, without flinching, yea, with loving-kindness. Illegally, He sat in a jail cell over a river for 12 years with his Bible, Galatians by Luther, and another book or two. He had the choice of feeling miserable and murmuring, or of filling his time, thoughts, and energies with studying that Bible, and seeking a way to be of help to his more comfortable, but less dedicated, brothers and sisters. Listen, dear saints, you can't do any better than reading Bunyan. Like Gurnall, he covers everything here and there, and with a sweetness that can come only from God. What a shame that his large heart should be encased in such small print. But, like digging gold, it is worth the time and trouble to dig spiritual gold. Bunyan (1628-1688) rose from an humble beginning to being a preacher to a little house church, to 12 years in jail because he would not agree to quit preaching, to a huge church in London. He wrote 66 books, nearly all while in jail.
A Sure Guide to Heaven is a thorough and compelling argument for the necessity of conversion. In it the author presents the nature of true conversion and common mistakes about conversion, so the reader can be assured he is not deceived into believing he is converted when in reality he is not (Matthew 7:13–14). Alleine outlines the marks of an unconverted soul, so the reader may make an accurate self-inventory (2 Corinthians 13:5–6). He forewarns the fence-sitter of the miseries of the unconverted state, both in this life and hereafter, and gives motives for conversion. The book concludes with “directions to the unconverted” so that the reader may take hold of the saving faith Christ offers. This Digital Puritan reprint, based on the Banner of Truth edition, includes the biographical preface of Iain Murray. Over four hundred Scripture references (in the English Standard Version®) are hyperlinked and embedded into the book. No internet connection is required.

Francis James Child's English and Scottish Popular Ballads, published in ten parts from 1882 to 1898, contained the texts and variants of 305 extant themes written down between the thirteenth and nineteenth centuries. Unsurpassed in its presentation of texts, this exhaustive collection devoted little attention to the ballad music, a want that was filled by Bertrand Harris Bronson in his four volume Traditional Tunes of the Child Ballads. The present book is an abridged, one-volume edition of that work, setting forth music and text for proven examples of oral tradition, with a new comprehensive introduction. Its convenient format makes readily available to students and scholars the materials for a study of the Child ballads as they have been preserved in the British-American singing tradition. Originally published in 1977. THE TRUTH LIES ON THE OTHER SIDE... South Baltimore's Angel Café is a trendy new eatery where patrons can enjoy exotic tea, aromatic coffee, and the psychic readings of clairvoyant Tia Melody. The star and main attraction of the restaurant, Tia claims to channel an otherworldly guide, Valentine, and somehow knows all there is to know about her expanding list of patrons. Kat Valenti is a workaholic attorney still coming to grips with the death of her fiancé, Peter, who died two years ago. Although drawn to the Angel Café, she is skeptical of Tia's readings -- until her late fiancé 'contacts' her to shed new light on how he died. Kat's wariness only grows as more clues turn up about Peter's death -- and all of them lead back to the Angel Café. Tia Melody is no simple fortune-teller, and Valentine is no benevolent spirit. Valentine's true power may be almost limitless -- and he doesn't want to tell the future anymore... He wants Kat.
