Originally invented in 1911 by A.C. Gilbert, the Erector construction toy was patented in 1913. It went on to become one of the most important and beloved children's toys of the 20th Century, and inspired a generation of young people to design, build, and think like engineers. In the USA, the Mysto and later A.C. Gilbert Co. built dozens of distinct sets, allowing construction of bridges, towers, airplanes, and even robots and airships. After A.C. Gilbert went bankrupt in 1967, Erector was resurrected by the Gabriel Co. Today it continues to be produced by Meccano, a subsidiary of Nikko. This Erector construction guide dates from the earliest era of this landmark toy, approximately 1913-17. It shows some of the models one could build with the Mysto Company's No. 1 thru No. 8 building sets. Original copies of this booklet are impossible to find - in fact one recently sold onan Internet auction site for over $500. This reproduction is over 35 pages long and has beautiful color covers. Although sightly reformatted, care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.
