A complete guide for everything you need to experience a great Long Weekend in historic SAVANNAH. (Also nearby Tybee Island.) One of my favorite places because I visited often when I had a girlfriend there in my college days. And since my family originated in Charleston, I’ve always had a fondness for the Charleston-Savannah rivalry for “Best Historic Southern Town.” “We had been to Charleston the previous year, and used the Delaplaine guide for that trip, which turned out so nicely, we thought we’d try the one he wrote for Savannah. Just as helpful, and actually a lot more information than you could ever hope to cover in a Long Weekend.” --- Morris J., Seattle “We’ve always been fans of Charleston, but had never been to Savannah before. Attending a business conference in nearby Hilton Head, I decided to get this book, extend my trip by 2 days, and had a truly magical time in Savannah, a place I will definitely return to.” --- Fred H., Dayton You'll save a lot of time using this concise guide. =Lodgings (throughout the area) variously priced =Fine & budget restaurants, more than enough listings to give you a sense of the variety to be found. =Principal attractions -- don't waste your precious time on the lesser ones. A complete guide for everything you need to experience a great Long Weekend in Cannes, one of the jewels of the French Riviera. You don’t have to go to Cannes in May during the Film Festival (it’s impossible to get rooms anyway). Cannes is as good in winter as it is in summer. (Even Cary Grant and Grace Kelly enjoyed it off season.) “We couldn’t believe the beauty of this place, especially as seen from the hill above Cannes looking down from an 11th Century tower of an old medieval castle, something we never would have thought to see without reading it in this guide.” ---Ashley H., Fairfield “We enjoyed visiting the little restaurants we found in this guide that took us to the side streets—away from tourists—we got to see how the locals live.” ---Giselle M., Dover You'll save a lot of time using this concise guide. =LODGINGS (throughout the area) variously priced =FINE & BUDGET RESTAURANTS, more than enough listings to give you a sense of the variety to be found. =PRINCIPAL ATTRACTIONS -- don't waste your precious time on the lesser ones. "We are from London, and we were looking forward to our first trip to the place where Americans first proclaimed their liberty by revolting against us. This guide helped us to have an excellent visit." ---Wilfred G., London You'll save a lot of time using this concise guide. =Lodgings (throughout the area) variously priced =Fine & budget restaurants, more than enough listings to give you a sense of the variety to be found. =Principal attractions -- don't waste your precious time on the lesser ones. There are many people who are enthusiastic about food—the cooking of it, the preparation of it, the serving of it, and let’s not forget the eating of it. But Andrew Delaplaine is the ultimate Food Enthusiast. “This concise guidebook was exactly what I needed to make the most of my limited time in town.” = Tanner Davis, Milwaukee This is another of his books with spot-on reviews of the most exciting restaurants in town. Some will merit only a line or two, just to bring them to your attention. Others deserve a half page or more. “The fact that he doesn’t accept free meals in exchange for a good review makes all the difference in his something brutally accurate reviews.” = Jerry Adams, El Paso “Exciting” does not necessarily mean expensive. The area’s top spots get the recognition they so richly deserve (and that they so loudly demand), but there are plenty of “sensible alternatives” for those looking for good food handsomely prepared by cooks and chefs who really care what they “plate up” in the kitchen. For those with a touch of Guy Fieri, Delaplaine ferrets out the best food for those on a budget. That dingy looking dive bar around the corner may serve up one of the juiciest burgers in town, perfect to wash down with a locally brewed craft beer. Whatever your predilection or taste, cuisine of choice or your budget, you may rely on Andrew Delaplaine not to disappoint. “Unlike the ‘honest’ reviews on site like Yelp, this writer knows what he’s talking about. He’s a professional, with decades in the business, not an amateur.” = Holly Titler, Los Angeles Delaplaine dines anonymously at the Publisher’s expense. No restaurant listed in this series has paid a penny or given so much as a free meal to be included. Bon Appétit!

Climate and anthropogenic changes impact the conditions of erosion and sediment transport in rivers. Rainfall variability and, in many places, the increase of rainfall intensity have a direct impact on rainfall erosivity. Increasing changes in demography have led to the acceleration of land cover changes in natural areas, as well as in cultivated areas, and, sometimes, in degraded areas and desertified landscapes. These anthropogenized landscapes are more sensitive to erosion. On the other hand, the increase in the number of dams in watersheds traps a great portion of sediment fluxes, which do not reach the sea in the same amount, nor at the same quality, with consequences on coastal geomorphodynamics. This book is dedicated to studies on sediment fluxes from continental areas to coastal areas, as well as observation, modeling, and impact analysis at different scales from watershed slopes to the outputs of large river basins. This book is concentrated on a number of keywords: “erosion” and “sediment transport”, “model” and “practice”, and “change”. The keywords are briefly discussed with respect to the relevant literature. The contributions in this book address observations and models based on laboratory and field data, allowing researchers to make use of such resources in practice under changing conditions.
Covering an area of over 130 million km2 spanning the Mediterranean, equator and tropics, the African continent features a spectacular geographic diversity. Consequently, it is characterised by extremely variable climatic, edaphic and ecological conditions, associated with a wide range of natural vegetation and wildlife, as well as human population density, crops and livestock. In this book, Henry Le Houérou presents his bioclimatic and biogeographic classification of Africa. The extensive data provide the basis for comparisons between various African regions, and with regions on other continents such as Latin America or the Indian subcontinent. The results constitute a rational basis for national, regional and sub-regional rural development planning, and for agricultural research dealing with aspects such as plant and animal introductions, the extrapolation or interpolation of experimental or developmental findings, and ecosystems dynamics. Possible problems of applications are also examined.
