Marco Negri was born to score goals--though little did he know that 13 years after cutting his teeth with Serie A side Udinese, he would become a cult hero in Scotland. When Walter Smith shelled out £3.5m, snatching the 27-year-old from the grasps of the Italian superpowers, Rangers fans were in for a mighty shock. Negri smashed in 33 goals in his first 29 games, breaking goalscoring records galore in tandem with Gascoigne and Laudrup. A match made in heaven? Perhaps not, as an eye injury was soon to halt this goal-grabbing juggernaut. Frustrating injuries, reports of unrest and loan deals ruled the remainder of his time at Ibrox. Neverthless, Marco Negri's name was already written in Rangers history, his cult status as inevitable as fans' tantalizing tales of what might have been. For the first time, here is the astonishing story of one of soccer's most enigmatic characters.
This book describes the Sustainable High Quality Healthcare (SustHealth) project, which had the goal of developing an original multidisciplinary evaluation tool that can be applied to assess and improve hospitals’ overall sustainability. The comprehensive nature of the appraisal offered by this tool exceeds the scope of most current rating systems, which typically permit a thorough evaluation of relevant environmental factors when designing a new building but fail to consider social and economic impacts of the design phase or the performance of the hospital’s operational structure in these fields. The multidisciplinary evaluation system was developed, from its very inception through to its testing, by following a scientific experimental method in which a global perspective was constantly maintained, as opposed to a focus only on specific technical issues. Application of the SustHealth rating tool to a currently functioning hospital, or one under design, will identify weaknesses and guide users to potential low-cost short-term solutions and longer-term strategies for improvement.

First published in 1997. As the United Nations moves beyond its fiftieth anniversary into the new millennium, it is faced with a new global system fraught with political and economic tensions that can no longer be handled with models that defined the organization when it was founded in 1945. An innovative vision for a restructuring of the United Nations, this book offers an insider's look at how the UN can respond more effectively to the challenges of the future in an age of globalization. Guido de Marco and Michael Bartolo, seasoned veterans of the United Nations, provide valuable policy recommendations involving a combination of political will, relevance, and efficiency in the coming years. Analysing the roles of major United Nations organs such as the General Assembly, the Trusteeship Council, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Security Council and the Secretariat, de Marco and Bartolo call for a more relevant and strengthened General Assembly as the truly representative organ of the United Nations, where all Member States of the Organization are permanent Members. They also call for a decentralization of United Nations activities, and for building stronger relationships with established regional entities and the Bretton Woods institutions. The proposals made here open up an important area of discussion beyond the confines of the United Nations as international policymakers seek peace and stability in the post-Cold War world.
