Excerpt from Manual of the Legislature of New Jersey: One Hundred and Thirty-Ninth Session, 1915 Carteret and Berkeley, in granting a liberal frame of government and extolling the advantages of their colony so well located for agriculture, commerce, fishing and mining, attracted settlers not only from England, but from Scotland and New England, particularly Long Island and Connecticut.
