Excerpt from Manual for Forest Fire Fighters Service The purpose of this manual is to present to those volunteers an adequate program Iof training that will best serve the needs of the service for Civilian Defense. No definite schedule of hours has been formulated for a training course. However, it is hoped that sufficient time will be devoted to the study of this manual to guar antee the minimum requirements. This guide has been renamed because, over time, the original purpose of the Fireline Handbook had been replaced by the Incident Response Pocket Guide, PMS 461. As a result, this new guide is aimed at a different audience, and it was felt a new name was in order.
