Game theory is the theory of social situations, and the majority of research into the topic focuses on how groups of people interact by developing formulas and algorithms to identify optimal strategies and to predict the outcome of interactions. Only fifty years old, it has already revolutionized economics and finance, and is spreading rapidly to a wide variety of fields. LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games is an assessment of the state of the art in its field and the first modern book on linear-quadratic game theory, one of the most commonly used tools for modelling and analysing strategic decision making problems in economics and management. Linear quadratic dynamic models have a long tradition in economics, operations research and control engineering; and the author begins by describing the one-decision maker LQ dynamic optimization problem before introducing LQ differential games. Covers cooperative and non-cooperative scenarios, and treats the standard information structures (open-loop and feedback). Includes real-life economic examples to illustrate theoretical concepts and results. Presents problem formulations and sound mathematical problem analysis. Includes exercises and solutions, enabling use for self-study or as a course text. Supported by a website featuring solutions to exercises, further examples and computer code for numerical examples. LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games offers a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of this extensively used class of economic models, and will appeal to applied mathematicians and econometricians as well as researchers and senior undergraduate/graduate students in economics, mathematics, engineering and management science.
Featuring original research from well-known experts in the field of sliding mode control, this book presents new design schemes for a useful and practical optimal control with very few impractical assumptions. The results presented allow optimal control theory to grow in its applicability to real-world systems. On the cutting-edge of optimal control research, this book is an excellent resource for both graduate students and researchers in engineering, mathematics, and optimal control.

A nonuniform laser beam traversing a material sample undergoes thermal lensing, that is, distortion and defocusing due to thermally induced changes in refractive index and bulging of sample faces. Vector Kirchhoff diffraction theory is applied to provide a detailed picture of the transmitted beam properties in the presence of lensing. In particular, the time evolution of the focal properties and the intensity degradation are investigated. Four distinct characteristic time regimes are identified for rating solids: ultrasmall, small, transitional, and steady state. The calculations account for birefringence due to thermally induced stress, which is shown to play a major role in the alkali halides. The optical performance of transmitting materials in various time regimes is evaluated for Gaussian beams incident on thin circular samples. Detailed quantitative ratings are presented for a wide range of transmitting materials at 10.6 micrometers. (Author Modified Abstract).
As part of its over-all program in the identification, preparation, and application of materials for use as high-power infrared laser windows, AFCRL has investigated theoretically and experimentally the thermal lensing caused by the distortion and defocusing of a laser beam traversing a material medium. In the report, the vector Kirchhoff approximation is applied to obtain the diffraction field due to a nonuniform laser beam normally incident on an optically isotropic, annular-shaped solid lens. Detailed computations of the on-axis intensity distribution versus time in both abstract and real variables are presented for Gaussian beams incident on various transmitting materials at 10.6 micrometers. The results of the computations demonstrate the role played by induced thermal stresses, incident beam shape, refocused beam, center-chopped beam, the the mating of two compensating materials. Two rough figures of merit are given for rating any window's optical and mechanical-optical performance. It is shown how lensing depends on material parameters. (Author).
This is the first comprehensive monograph on the theology of Abū l-Qāsim al-Kaʿbī al-Balkhī (d. 319/931), a leading Muʿtazilī who flourished at the end of the Baghdādī school and at the beginning of the scholastic phase of Muʿtazilī history. The study of al-Kaʿbī’s theology has been hindered by historiographical barriers: the fragmentary nature of extant articles, and the difficulties of reconstructing their contexts. This work investigates the twofold challenge of recovering al-Kaʿbī’s theology on the basis of a source-critical reconstruction of major extant fragments. One result of this study positions al-Kaʿbī’s theology as influenced less by the precepts of a Baghdādī school, and guided more by his individual views and affinity for earlier independent Muʿtazilī positions. Another result not only corroborates al-Kaʿbī’s previously noted contributions in epistemology and cosmology, but also argues for their centrality to his theology as a whole.
This book covers the prospects of the fair value of the stock is incorporated in the LQ 45 (45 most active stocks) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange. The calculation of the fair value of the stock using Fundamental Analysis Warren Buffet and Benjamin Graham are further processed and modified by the author into stock valuation calculator application that is already in the patent right in the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. Prospects issuers for 3-6 months (June-December 2015) by reference to the fair value of the shares which are projected from the data first quarter financial report (March 31, 2015) plus the fair value of the historical data from 2011 to 2014 will establish a trend fair value compared to the market price closure. The main parameters of the financial data used in the calculation of stock valuation is historically served since 2011-2015 (the main financial data has been annualized for the quarter 1, 2 and 3). The book comes in 2014 macro-economic analysis, analysis of industry sectors and qualitative analysis per quarter from 2011 to 2015 and charts the fair value compared to the market price and charts combined net income, free cash flow and working capital.
In twelfth-century Byzantium, poetry played a key part in various contexts of textual production and consumption. One of the leading poets of this period was Theodoros Prodromos, whose surviving corpus comprises approximately 17,000 verses. Even though most of his poetry has been presented in modern critical editions, a group of his works has been overlooked by modern philologists and literary scholars alike. The selected corpus--conventionally designated as Miscellaneous Poems--consists of texts on various themes and in a wide range of genres, ranging from cycles of religious and secular epigrams to riddles, ethopoiiai, and works of a self-referential and essayistic nature. This book includes the first critical edition and study of these poems, accompanied by English translations and commentaries. Their study contributes to a more nuanced picture of Prodromos' intellectual profile, expanding his image as the 'poet laureate' of the Komnenian court and providing entirely new insights into his activity in the different settings of Constantinopolitan intellectual life. The book also sheds new light on the complex relationship between patronage and other aspects of literary activity and the circulation of the same text in different performative contexts.
