Investigations on electrical dischargs and their effects have been conducted to study all phases of the problem of atmospheric electrical discharges to aircraft with the purpose of (1) improving the protection of aircraft against such discharges, (2) alleviating the hazards to occupants of aircraft from such discharges, and (3) avoiding conditions under which the discharges may be experienced.
