Extracts from the journal of captain Samuel Tucker, kept on board the frigate BOSTON from 11 February - 6 November 1778. Passengers on the frigate included John Adams, who was on his way to his first diplomatic mission in France. A copy of a letter to Samuel Tucker from William Vernon and James Warren explains Adams' presence on the ship. Tucker's journal entries describe the voyage to France and the return trip to Boston, including the weather, sailing conditions, the crew's activities, and ships captured and held as prizes by Tucker and his crew. The journal also includes a list of men who served aboard the frigate.
