From the outset, it is good to declare that this reviewer is a PhD executive candidate supervised by the author himself, and this reviewer must say that as a good supervisor, he has been unselfishly sharing with the candidate various materials and writing ideas; on many occasions, they discussed, brainstormed and even argued on various issues.This reviewer would agree that Low's (2013) Leading Successfully in Asia is “a must-read” and “a goldmine of leadership ideas and tips”. “Readers will certainly gain from this scholarly work; distilled wisdom captured and now for use and applications”. Many of this reviewer's students also shared this view with him. Indeed the practitioner-academic author believes that “Asia is rising; and the book has been written with the idea that more people will want to do business in Asia”, and Leading Successfully in Asia would help them most. (Low, 2013: xi). And this reviewer accepts as true that the author has fulfilled his purpose or objectives. Moreover, this reviewer feels that this is a typical leadership book but written from the Asian perspectives which is lacking in the market. Readers can also enjoy the cartoons or illustrations drawn by the author himself. This professor has brought in relevant Confucian concepts and applying them to the contemporary business world such as best practices, standards, benchmarking and continuous improvement (Low, 2013 pp. 339-340). One critique expressed her liking about this book as, “It is simple to read and understand unlike most textbooks which use difficult and complicated words” and “After each topic, there is a chapter conclusion to recap on what has been talked about and this makes it convenient for me to track back on what has been read or studied”. Another critique commented, “It can be used as a reference book for me on Asian leadership styles topic”. Some critiques highlighted positively that Professor Low's “use of proverbs in every chapter is quite amazing because it is actually hard to find a proper or suitable proverb to use in some topics” and “The availability of questions at the end of every chapter makes it easier for me to recap what I have read on that chapter instead of just a summary which is actually cliché”
