Lazarus was given an extension of life and the time spent on earth. Do you think Lazarus lived a drastically different life after resurrection? Would you think and live differently if you were given such an opportunity? Dr. Asher Chanan-Khan, a world-renowned cancer researcher and clinical oncologist, experienced such a "Lazarus moment" in his life when his own terminal cancer was miraculously paused, rendering him an extension of life. Now, 15 years later, Dr. Asher ponders upon his living in these Lazarus moments. Read on to learn about God’s grace in the face of imminent mortality and how the author’s journey in these extended moments of life are purposefully designed to bring glory to his Creator. Lazarus and Me reflects modern-day struggles with historical hope. If we flip to the back of the book, we either win or we learn but we never lose. My hope is that you would find the strength in your journey to fight on as we discovered in the [biblical] story of Lazarus and the words of Dr. Asher Chanan-Khan. —LOUIS UPKINS, Entrepreneur & Author of Treat Me Like a Customer In Lazarus and Me, Dr. Chanan-Khan guides us to consider how to best invest our remaining days in the Lord’s service, just as Lazarus did. Our allotted number of days mean far less to God than how we choose to live them. Lazarus and Me is a vivid reminder of that reality. The personal testimony of my close friend, Dr. Chanan-Khan, about his battle with cancer will bring hope, faith, and rich encouragement to all those who read this inspiring book. —BILLIE HANKS JR., Founder, International Evangelism Association

From the international best-selling author of The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon comes a dazzling new work of historical fiction, retelling the story of the Passion from the point of view of Lazarus. According to the New Testament, Jesus resurrected his friend, but the Gospel of John omits details of how he achieved this miracle and whether he had any special purpose in doing so. The acclaimed novelist Richard Zimler takes up the tale and recreates the story of the Passion from Lazarus' point of view. Restored to physical health, he has difficulty picking up his former existence; his experience of death has left him fragile and disoriented, and he has sensed nothing of an afterlife. Meanwhile he has become something of a local celebrity, even though he and Jesus are increasingly reviled by the Temple's high priests. As he turns more and more to Jesus for guidance, while observing his friend's growing mystical powers and influence through his spiritual activities, he finds their lives becoming dangerously entwined, which tests to the limit their friendship and affection. In this compelling work of fiction the author places Jesus in the historical context of ancient Jewish practice and tradition; he is at once a charismatic rabbi and a political activist who uses his awareness of a transcendent reality—culminating in the Kingdom of Heaven—to try to bring justice to his people and a broader compassion for humankind. With The Gospel According to Lazarus, Richard Zimler brings the familiar story vividly to life and finds fresh meaning in the Passion and Crucifixion.

Discovering Lazarus is one man's attempt at finding redemption from his evil way of life. I started my descent into a dark abyss while in my teen years, and it continued until I was thirty-two years old and homeless. I lost everything--my home, my wife, my cars, trucks, and my businesses. Self-destruction and exhaustion coupled with financial ruin, despair, and depression led me to a point where I found myself on my knees. I found myself in St. Francis Church in Metuchen, New Jersey, asking for forgiveness from God and praying for a second chance at redemption and a new life. I prayed, "God, I am sorry for abandoning you and living an evil life. Please forgive me and take control of my life and direct it for me. If you won't do this for me, O Lord, please take my life from me and let me die." God was listening and heard my pleas for atonement, redemption, and a second chance. He helped me rise up from the ashes of spiritual death, so I could begin to help others in many different ways. I became a nationally-known addiction counselor who, in partnership with my wife, Marilyn, opened several extremely successful outpatient counseling centers in New Jersey. Over a twenty-five-year period, our counseling centers helped thousands of families experience recovery from destructive addictive illness. However, it was only the beginning of God's planed journey for me. I also became an international criminal profiler who hunted some of the most evil serial killers in the world.
