Both synthetic and natural latices were covered in this conference, including natural rubber latex, high volume synthetic emulsions, such as SBR, as well as specialty products, such as acrylics. Application markets addressed included adhesives and sealants, carpet backing, paper coatings, construction, fabrics, foamed articles, medical gloves, medical devices, textile threads, condoms and others. The latex industry is in dynamic flux at the present time. The supply side has undergone major restructuring. Inter-materials competition has intensified as improved materials become capable of challenging incumbent materials. Many serious issues face the latex industry, such as continuing price depression in some sectors, rising technical demands as well as substantial legislative and environmental pressure. Despite the challenging times facing the industry, the overall prospects for latex are very positive. Substitution of solvent based products continues, the performances of latices continues to improve in such applications as adhesives and the glove industry is responding positively to the setbacks of the allergy controversy. 9 million dry tons and has spread across a wide range of industrial and consumer markets. Growing demand in medical and strong prospects in construction are just two of the positive trends that will continue to fuel the market growth of both natural and synthetic latices. As last year's conference demonstrated, the Rapra International Latex Conference is an unparalleled forum for developing understanding of the latex industry, technical trends and market driving forces, such as new legislation. The 2002 event provided a vital meeting point for the synthetic and natural latex communities of Europe, Asia and America. This conference will be of interest to all latex stakeholders, including: feedstock suppliers, latex producers, compounders, fabricators of consumer, medical and industrial articles based on latex, traders and distributors, machine and equipment suppliers, legislators, healthcare professionals and users of latex based products.
The term latex covers emulsion polymers, polymer dispersions and polymer colloids. This review report provides a general overview of the emulsion polymerisation processes and explains how the resulting latices are used in industrial applications. The classes of emulsion polymers are surveyed and the commercial technologies and potential future uses discussed. An additional indexed section containing several hundred abstracts from the Polymer Library gives useful references for further reading.
Latex 2004 provided a valuable update on the latest trends and developments in synthetic emulsions, natural latex and latex based products. The conference covered both synthetic and natural rubber latex materials, additives as well as developments in important end market applications, such as adhesives, carpet backing, condoms, foamed products, gloves, non wovens, paints, textiles and many others. Topics discussed included new materials and chemicals, machinery and equipment developments, standards & regulatory requirements, quality enhancements, and market trends. The objective of this Rapra Review Report is to provide a comprehensive overview of the use of rubber as a food contact material, from an initial description of the types of rubber which are used in the industry, through the formulation of products, and the contact regulations and migration testing regimes, to the research that is on-going to improve its safety and the trends for the future. This report is a completely revised and updated version of Rapra Review Report 119 published in 2000. This Rapra Review Report comprises a concise, expert review, supported by an extensive bibliography compiled from the Rapra Abstracts database on the topic of rubbers in contact with food. This bibliography provides useful additional information on this topical field.
This well-illustrated book synthesizes all aspects of allergy, asthma, and related fields such as aerobiology and immunology. Appropriate for allergy practitioners and medical students seeking the latest information on allergy and asthma, it covers aeroallergens and their source plants all over the world. The book focuses on allergies caused by pollen and environmental pollution as well as skin disorders stemming from latex allergies. It contains the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment of allergy and asthma releveant to applied clinical immunology.
In the second edition of this book, the origin, upkeep and latex harvest from the Hevea rubber tree are dealt with succinctly. New chapters have been included on Propagation Systems and Genetic Resources. The importance of Heterozygosis and Breeding is a new theme for the section on Breeding. A new chapter on Genomics and Molecular Breeding that focuses on the latest advancements on gene mapping, marker assisted selection and stimulation has been added. Lastly, ‘textboxes’ that highlight points and topics of significant interest are included in the new addition. Natural rubber has been an essential commodity not only for the tire industry but also for more than 50,000 products that holds elasticity as an attribute. The prime source of natural rubber worldwide is Hevea brasiliensis. Hevea rubber tree is an excellent example of how a soil-tree-atmosphere system can work in tandem. The retrieval of rubber through ‘injuring’ the tree on alternate days or once in three days or once in seven days, is indeed a unique arrangement followed universally that ensures income to the planter almost throughout the year. Every molecule of rubber is the end result of meticulous biochemical changes. Therefore the biology of Hevea rubber tree itself is a subject that aggregates science and technology for the realization of its industrial utility.
