La tesis trata de defender la siguiente propuesta: los conflictos pueden ser percibidos de manera positiva o negativa en función de los medios de regulación utilizados. De este modo, afirma que el uso de la violencia lleva a una visión negativa de los conflictos debido a las consecuencias destructivas que produce. En cambio, propone la transformación de los conflictos como metodología que hace uso de medios pacíficos para su regulación. Por esta razón, considera que la transformación favorece la percepción positiva de las situaciones conflictivas, ya que pone el énfasis en la reconciliación de las partes, así como en la búsqueda de soluciones alternativas que facilitan la creación de nuevos objetivos para un futuro más creativo y cercano a la cultura para hacer las paces. Para mostrar la posibilidad de regulación positiva de los conflictos, revisa de forma sencilla la metodología de la transformación positiva de las situaciones conflictivas. Es decir, hace un recorrido por las diferentes terminologías utilizadas para designar los estudios de los conflictos como son la resolución, gestión y transformación de conflictos. De este modo, señala las diferencias existentes entre ellas y justifica el interés que desde este trabajo se otorga a la transformación de conflictos. La transformación pacífica de los conflictos se convierte en una metodología para su regulación que nos aporta una nueva imagen de cada conflicto al entenderlo como una situación inherente a las relaciones humanas conl a que se tiene que aprender a convivir. Desde esta perspectiva, la transformación pacífica de los conflictos centra toda su atención en l apráctica de mecanismos, que alejados de la violencia, busquen el abordaje de los conflictos con la finalidad de alcanzar acuerdos, principalmente, comunicativos, y aplicados a cada caso en particular, desde los conflcitos interpersonales a los armados y a los terrorismos. La autora se propone en este libro ofrecer una nueva imagen de los conflictos a raíz de un estudio de la metodologçia de su transformación pacífica. In Peace and Rural Development in Colombia Andrés García Trujillo investigates whether peace agreements geared toward terminating internal armed conflicts trigger rural distributive changes. Combining academic rigor with an insider’s perspective, García Trujillo shows that the peace agreement in Colombia opened an exceptional window for addressing rural inequality. Yet, despite some progress, he argues that the agreement’s leverage to stir change was severely constrained by opposing actors within and outside the government. García Trujillo later applies the framework developed for the Colombian case to explain key dynamics of other post-conflict societies that have dealt with agrarian issues under a transitional context, like El Salvador or South Africa.
