Este libro va dirigido a los estudiantes y estudiosos de la Psicologia Clinica que busquen informacion relevante sobre la eficacia y la utilidad de la psicoterapia, el proceso de intervencion, las habilidades clinicas basicas y los aspectos eticos y legales de la profesion. En primer lugar, se expone la definicion y caracteristicas de la Psicologia Clinica, las funciones de los psicologos clinicos, los niveles de intervencion y los campos de aplicacion. A continuacion, se aborda el tema de la eficacia de la psicoterapia y se presentan datos relativos a las posibilidades de generalizar los resultados obtenidos en las investigaciones a la practica clinica habitual. En tercer lugar, se detallan los diferentes pasos que se realizan con un paciente, desde el primer contacto hasta la finalizacion del tratamiento y del seguimiento. Mas adelante, se describen las actitudes basicas que debe tener todo psicologo clinico y se explican las principales habilidades de comunicacion.
