Knowing Noah is the story of the adventures of a young farm mouse who, through extraordinary circumstances found that he could read and understand humans when they spoke.Because of this wonderful capability Noah not only finds himself in the midst of some very terrifying adventures but also finds that his fellow mice at school or at play cannot seem to accept him as he is.Even though he is bullied and pushed about,Noah has a spirit and a capacity for seeing and doing the right thing. He befriends the dreaded barn cat Snoad and together they make a great team, much to the dismay of everyone else.Noah meets many characters in his travels about the farm;Mrs Yahoody the lady hedgehog who helps save Noah from the jaws of a hungry fox,Madame Topal, she of the beady eye and the rigid stern schoolroom for young mice, who cannot understand Noah and his imaginative ways. These and many other characters make up a supporting cast for Noah as he grows and learns the ways of his world.A book about being different and using the gifts that nature gives to triumph over all obstacles.
Illustrations accompany the Biblical text telling how Noah obeyed God's command to build an ark in order to survive the great flood.
Ten-year-old Noah has a gift beyond the natural gifts of humans. This ability allows him to hear the thoughts of the family therapy dog, Ozzie, and to see visions of the future, which go unnoticed by the people who should love him and trust him the most.Noah’s brother Sean is on the autism spectrum and receives more attention from their parents, at least more than Noah gets…which causes him to feel angst, sadness, frustration, and jealousy. Noah wants what all children want, love and acceptance. He needs his parents and grandmother to trust him and help him gain confidence in himself. Being Noah is a story of a boy believing in himself, even when others don’t, and finding a way to use his gifts so he can affect change in the world and lives of those around him. Being Noah is Margaret Cheryl Hardy’s first and only work, written in the MFA program at Western Colorado University. "A thoughtful book that is well-paced and includes enough realism to balance the mystical and spiritual content. A great book for introspection and discussion after reading."—School Library Journal
I can’t believe I’m thinking of going up against the Ministry. But what other choice do I have? This world is in shambles because of them. I’m learning now that people need something to believe in, something to inspire them to act. When they have it, they’re capable of great courage. And there is already talk of that something. That something is us. For the first time in probably their entire lifetimes, people have hope. The realization and enormity of it all, the weight of who I am and what my mission truly entails, sends chills down my spine. Noah and I, we are Chosen. Still, this wondrous gift and this ability to restore life to a dying world, as amazing as it is, presents us with problem after problem. Where do we go? Where do we hide? Who is on our side? And the biggest question of all… will it be worth it?
Christianity and the Culture Machine is a precedent-shattering approach to combining theories of media and culture with theology. In this intensive examination of Christianity's role in the cultural marketplace, the author argues that Christianity's inability to effectively contest the ideology of secular humanism is not a theological shortcoming, but rather a communications problem: the institutional church is too wedded to an outmoded aesthetic of Christianity to communicate effectively. Privileging authority and obedience over the egalitarian and transformative goal of Christianity, the church fails to recognize how it undermines the vitality of the Christian narrative and message. In the absence of a more compelling vision offered by the official church, a new aesthetic can be found forming within the margins of popular culture texts. Despite its past failures in representing the Bible in mainstream film and television, the culture industry now offers more compelling versions of core Christian theology without even realizing it--within the margins of the main storylines. This book analyzes the aesthetic principles employed by these appropriations and articulations of Christian discourse as a means of theorizing what a new aesthetic of Christianity might look like.
The film book tie-in for what will be the most talked-about film of spring 2014: Darren Aronofsky's Noah, starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, and Anthony Hopkins. Following on the heels of his successful film Black Swan, celebrated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky turns his talent to the epic big-budget biblical tradition with his film Noah, starring Award-winners¨ Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, and Anthony Hopkins, as well as Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Ray Winstone. Russell Crowe stars as Noah, a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world. The film touches on themes found throughout Aronofsky's work-the dichotomy of life/death, inner turmoil, otherness-presented with Aronofsky's singular and compelling aesthetic. Noah is an extension of Aronofsky's otherworldly sensibilities; it showcases art from the film and the director at work and is a must-have for fans of Aronofsky and of cinema everywhere.

From author Rosalie Spielman comes a Halloween homicide in paradise... It's Kiki Hepburn's first Halloween in Aloha Lagoon, and she doesn't know exactly what to expect. Between working at the busy Aloha Lagoon Dive Shop and living with the eccentric Auntie Akamai, life is always unpredictable. But one thing Kiki definitely didn't expect to find is the dead body of Auntie Akamai's life-long friend, Celine Suzuki! And when the island's Homicide Detective Ray shows up, Kiki knows the death is not an accident—it's murder. Now Auntie Akamai's friends are all suspects in the death. Was it Oliana Harris, the Pineapple Princess, and heiress to a pineapple fortune? Margaux La Roux, a transplant from New Orleans? Or Stella Keawe, Akamai's gossipy goose of a neighbor? They're all acting suspiciously. And each is hiding something. But is what they're hiding worth killing over? To complicate matters even more, Kiki's parents want her to bring her hot diver boyfriend Dex home for the holidays, and Kiki's not sure how she feels about the whole situation—let alone how Dex feels. Instead of enjoying her first Hawaiian Autumn under the waves, Kiki's investigation takes her to gardens of flowering poisonous plants, an over-the-top animal shelter, a prickly pineapple plantation, and a zombie theme "Hallo-wedding." With time running out and "something" stalking her every move, will Kiki live to see her Halloween treats? Or will this year end in a "trick" Kiki won't come back from?
